Lack of Cotton MIDI Knickers in the World.

I have a short torso so full briefs come up to the armpit. So, I like to wear midi knickers. I used to wear M&S midi knickers as they were cotton. But they discontinued all Midi knickers in cotton.

So I switched to Sloggi 24/7 Midi cotton knickers only (the Sloggi basic+ midi have uncomfortably tight elastic around legs).
However stocks are dwindling of 24/7 as the range is discontinued, sadly.

I have tried Next, George (Asda) and Tu (Sainsbury), Wirarpy and Innersey. And in plus sizes all they've done is make them wider at the outer seam but not the inner parts as they're cut away deeply at inner edge of leg opening and that deep curve at the groin exposes my lady bits and I don't have a Brazilian coiffure down there.
I'm a size UK 16-18.

And there's another problem. If you have bladder weakness and want to wear a pad, that gusset in many styles is now way too narrow and the pad overlaps the sides. On the M&S High Rise Shorts style they say “NEW NAME, STILL YOUR FAVOURITE MIDI FIT" on the actual packet. No, it's not the same MIDI FIT at all as it doesn't have a stable gusset to stick a pad to and they're cut too high in the inner leg opening. I wore TENA Lady mini pads and they were stuck roughly in place but while walking became unstable, rolled up and the sticky side attached to my downstairs body hair pulling a chunk out at the roots leaving a hair root rip injury in my groin area. Another time, the pad became unstuck, rolled into a tube covering the sticky tape, then slipped out the loose leg of the shorts (luckily before I left the house).

So people, where do you get your cotton, Midi knickers from? And please say IF you are comfortable, and over size UK16-18 and have had your Midi knickers from sellers that have a high cutaway gusset that exposes your lady parts? Or stops you using pads?
Thank you in advance! 🙂

M&S renamed their midi knickers. They're now called high rise shorts. Same knickers

Gah I was about to recommend high rise shorts from M&S but you’ve tried them! They aren’t the same knickers as either the midis or the previous shorts but I’m in love with them.

several friends recommend knickers off amazon but I can’t remember which ones. Sorry!

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 04/09/2026 16:52

I found the M&S High Rise Shorts to be exactly the same as their old midi knickers but I don't use pads anymore.

The Next gusset was too narrow.

Sainsbury. A surprisingly comfortable emergency purchase. Very thin, so although they’ve washed well over the summer, don’t know how long they’ll last. Generously sized.

PaperPanama · 04/09/2026 16:59

Oh, you’ve tried Sainsbury’s. Well, I’m pleased with mine.

allthemind · 04/09/2026 17:01

Have you definitely tried the right wirapry ones? I also wear minis and have some extraordinarily comfortable ones from them (and some less comfortable ones with an elastic panel)

Imdonehere · 04/09/2026 17:03

I have the wirapa boy shorts. I'm not plus size but find they fit completely differently to the pictures on Amazon. More like midis, and wider gusset.
Maybe try them?

GettingFestiveNow · 04/09/2026 17:29

Community Clothing low rise might suit you.

hexsnidgett · 04/09/2026 17:32

Primark cotton shorts. Get the xl

hexsnidgett · 04/09/2026 17:36

They are 100% cotton so not stretchy, which is why I say get the xl.

bilbodog · 04/09/2026 17:38

I know youve tried sloggis in the past - i buy their high rise ones and am a size 18 but i always buy size 22 as i find they shrink after a few washes and this means they last a lot longer. Maybe try upsizing?

M&S shorts knickers are not the same cut. They have a really narrow gusset and different leg cut.

They don't as I have their old midis and the new highrise ones and they are exactly the same.

Sunbringer · 05/09/2026 20:30

Sorry… full briefs come up to your armpits?? I’m not sure how that’s even possible

Sorry, I have just compared them carefully and the gusset is a few mm narrower, you are correct.

Maybe they have beer shorts. I have M&S High Rise Shorts from about 1ı mths ago and if I don't wear a pad, thry are pretty and comfortable in a variety of prints and lace, but they do have a narrow gusset and sticking a pad to it, it overlaps and comes unstuck. But maybe the newer shorts have a wider gusset? I did do an AI search for reviews of the shorts and many said they're nothing like the old Midi knickers. I used to wear bikini knickers when I was quite skinny. But as I'm older with a bit of a belly, elastic gets trapped under the belly fold and looks like a BEFORE image on a diet product commercial 😂

I tried the Wirarpi Midi knickers and they were comfy, but I'm plus sized and found that they had increased the width across hips for the XL, but where they cut the leg holes for the gusset, they hadn't made that bit plus sized do it meant that it was cut really high on the inner groin and my public area was exposed on each side. It made the gusset narrow and mini pad overlapped. If they have boylegs versions I might try those as their thicker waistband is comfy.

Well some full briefs I got from Amazon did reach to over my bra band not far from armpits. M& S full briefs reach up to the bottom of my bralette band. Midi knickers come up to over my belly button and above my waist about 2 to 3 in below my bra. I am 5 ft tall with a very short torso. Was a premature baby and quite undersized.

Go onto Sandra's website, a UK lingerie company, or goghle Marquis knickers, I am a convert from Sloggis.

erssie · 06/09/2026 12:30

*better shorts not "beer" shorts.. 🫠

bababamama · 06/09/2026 12:32

I have Sainsbury’s full, but they aren’t particularly deep, maybe half way between a full and midi. They also shrink at first so size up and they will be the fit you want after 3 or so washes, I’m your size and wear their 18

erssie · 06/09/2026 16:51

I'm really happy with my Sloggi 24/7 cotton. Trouble is, Sloggi are discontinuing their 24/7 cotton ones that are just right on the leg. I have a pile of Sloggi Basic+ cotton ones and they're in my usual size, a great fit and thry aren't discontinuing those but there's a drawback. The cut of the outer leg of the basic falls on my outer thigh exactly where I have a large mole like a raised soft sultana grape and knicker elastic , slices into it and makes it bleed and scab up. I have asked my GP before about having the mole removed as in the past I kept bleeding all the time. He said not a chance on the NHS as its benign. I saw a dermatologist to have a tumour removed from my face that was benign and they froze it off but said he really isn't allowed to remove benign stuff even on the face so if that grew back, I'd have to fund private surgery. I said oh, so what if this mole keeps getting traumatised on my outer thigh. He said change your knickers style or I'm afraid you'll have to go to a private clinic.

However, you might have come up with a solution there if I size up yo a 20-22 size, and slightly longer on the side of Sloggi Basic+s might not ride up and slice my mole off.
