Footwear for barrel leg jeans

I’ve just bought a pair of barrel leg jeans and a pair of barrel leg utility cargoes. I love the shape and deliberated for ages over the length, finally going for full length because I hate having cold ankles! Now I’m stuck for shoes - what would you recommend?

I wear mine with trainers or adidas brogues. I’ve also tried limiting Chelsea boots with them (thinking ahead to autumn) and those work well too.

Jemimapuddleduk · 31/08/2026 19:57

Meant to read ‘slim fitting’ Chelsea boots!

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 31/08/2026 20:00

Brogues and loafers. Kitten heel sling backs for evenings.

MyManinCaracas · 31/08/2026 20:00

I’ve worn Hoff trainers and leopard print ballet flats.

I wear mine with dr Marten sling back mules.. Fur lined so warm.

Lugol · 31/08/2026 20:04

I wear mine with Birkenstock sheepskin mules

ConstantlyFuriosa · 31/08/2026 20:06

Birkenstocks. Arizonas or bostons. They balance the leg so well.

Franxi · 31/08/2026 20:08

Bovver boots (not the steel toe kind!).

TheChosenTwo · 31/08/2026 20:10

I don’t wear them (they look weird on me!) but I see a lot of people wearing them with colourful trainers.

Nix32 · 31/08/2026 20:22

Are we talking chunky trainers (Filas?) or something like Adidas gazelles?

Jemimapuddleduk · 31/08/2026 20:23

I wear adidas trainers, so not chunky

fiorentina · 31/08/2026 20:26

A pointed flat for smarter barrels and slimline adidas for casual.

RubiesandRose · 31/08/2026 20:29

Slim trainers not chunky, kitten heel boots, pointed toe boots, anything slim line that balances out the volume of the barrel leg.

Atleastitsnotsunstroke · 31/08/2026 20:41

I think they need a low profile trainer for a more feminine look. Depends what you wear on top or what you prefer.

SirChenjins · 31/08/2026 20:44

For warm ankles I wear chunky pull on ankle boots. Trainers are fine in the summer but I feel the cold, so need something warmer.

grinandslothit · 31/08/2026 20:48

I don't wear them they look ridiculous I don't understand this trend why people are following it when it looks so ridiculous

SirChenjins · 31/08/2026 20:49

That's nice - but the OP didn't ask if you wore them

ConstantlyFuriosa · 31/08/2026 20:49

I think a small, slim shoe makes them look too tapered. You need a bit of ankle then a wider - not ‘chunky’ - shoe like a Birkenstock. I think they look horrible with small shoes. Like parsnip legs.

MyManinCaracas · 31/08/2026 20:55

Definitely not chunky or you’ll look like Charlie Chaplin.

The point of not knowing what shoes to wear with them is telling because no shoes will go with them. that was my point

I see them with low profile slim trainers, more along the lines of gazelles etc, just nice bright colourful ones.

I like wearing them with a chunky trainer. I have a pair of Adidas gazelle.

Ballet flats

TealReader · 31/08/2026 23:38

Low profile trainers, pointed toe flats, ballet flats, square toe loafers. I like a geometric shape to offset the roundness of the trouser if that makes sense.
