Recommendations for a quality colourful necklace for a 10th birthday gift

Looking for a nice quality necklace for a 10th birthday gift for my lovely niece. She likes pinks, purples, turquoise type colours, and isn’t quite grown up enough for silver or gold, as she’s definitely still into colourful, semi precious stone type stuff.

Her mum said she would really love some special jewellery, budget around £50, although I could potentially go a bit higher if I teamed up with my other sister.

I have absolutely no idea who makes nice necklaces for this sort of age bracket. Ideally, I’d like something that feels special and will last, to celebrate her turning double digits.

Any recommendations?

Have you looked at Pandora? They have some nice silver necklaces and pendants that would appeal to tweens, such as Disney, as well as stuff for any age. I know you say she is young for silver but if you want it to last then I would choose silver rather than base meal as it will last and can easily be polished at home with a silver cloth to remove tarnish.

I was just about to suggest Pandora threy have some pretty/colourful charms and necklaces.

I wouldn't go over £50. My ten year old would lose/break it and then feel awful.

Hippiegirls have some cool colourful stuff. My daughter got lovely earrings and bracelet there! Reasonable prices too.

Some lovely suggestions, thank you! Personal recommendations for things that don’t fall apart or discolour as soon as you wear them are always invaluable. Particularly given that a 10 year old’s necklace probably gets more “tear” than the usual “wear and tear”! 😂

To clarify, my comment on silver wasn’t very clear. I meant she probably wouldn’t appreciate a tasteful silver charm, initial or simply set stone. She would be very happy with a silver or gold chain with something colourful on it! She would just be more excited by the pink, purple or turquoise element than the silver or gold itself.

She has a giant shell full of “gems”, amethyst, quartz etc, in her bedroom, as last year she asked for a geode! Disney, gummy bears and animal themes would also likely be popular, so thank you for some more ideas!

Vermeil is an option if you want an affordable 'gold' chain. I got a vermeil chain last year from Warren James to go with a gold pendant I had and I'm pleased with the quality, the vermeil shows no sign of wearing off and I've worn it a lot.

I'd definitely look at the option of buying a chain and pendant separately to stay in budget; obviously buy the pendant first so you can check it will fit onto the chain.

For a piece that you want the recipient to keep, the pendant is what I call the continuity part, i.e. the chain can be replaced and it's still the same necklace, so buying an unbranded but good quality chain can help you spend more on the pendant or charm.

Have a look on etsy for a sterling silver necklace with a crystal on it? I am a massive crystal collector and absolutely love my jewellery from etsy with crystals.

I bought this exact necklace - I doubt it's really opal but it's pretty and stone rather than plastic (and is a knock off of a £250+ necklace I loved but am too tight to pay for 😂).
