I want this

I can afford this

what do you think? am I better off with neither? will the GP one just make me miserable, a constant reminder of the beautiful one I actualy wanted but couldn't quite bring myself to buy? opinions please!

Sorry, can't see expensive one. But the price...

Buy the cheap one and feel smug that you didn't fall prey to the folly of high end high cost yet utterly transient fashion.

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/06/2008 13:58

um, prefer the Matches one, sorry.....

Lizzylou · 28/06/2008 13:59

I prefer GP one anyway

Eve34 · 28/06/2008 14:00

I much prefer the black one, if you can afford the expensive one and would get to wear it a few times, so for it you will regret it otherwise.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 28/06/2008 14:00

they are so different.. I really love the expensive one... sorry...

DarthVader · 28/06/2008 14:03

I think they are very different dresses.

Have you tried on the expensive one, does it look great on you?

Stargazing · 28/06/2008 14:06

I have tried it on, back when it was ful price .. and I don't wish to sound full of myself, but I did look rather good in it...

Aaaah

OK the answer is this, if you will spend the £800 on something else that you want more, do that, whether it be a weekend away or grocery shopping you cannot do without.

If not - get that dress!

EmmyLou · 28/06/2008 14:09

Sod it then, buy the expensive one. Buy it and try it on at home at least.

LynetteScavo · 28/06/2008 14:16

Oh the matches one is so lovely, and it is in the sale!

woodenchair · 28/06/2008 14:28

Think of all the money you would save by buying it in the sale.

Are we helping?

yama · 28/06/2008 14:33

The expensive one is beautiful, the cheap one looks shapeless. It may be nice on though ....

lou33 · 28/06/2008 15:13

they both look nice, but omg , even sale price is making me ] at the first link

I need Gok, don't I? to show me how to customise some topshop buy and make it look a miilion bucks...

I have these shoes and kind of think they deserve the Derek Lam dress.

noddyholder · 28/06/2008 15:26

expensive one is lovely but overpriced for what it is and I have bought a fair few silly priced things in my time so not coming at it from a tightwad angle just it looks very fashiony to be so expensive

Don't get the cheap one even if you can't get the other one The shoes are too nice for the dress which in rl probably looks quite cheap (sorry)

harpomarx · 28/06/2008 17:00

the cheap one hangs like a curtain. Don't get it!

if it's the pale grey silk and ruffles that you like about the expensive one, then why not go for something a bit more affordable, like this French Connection one?

not sure it would do those glorious shoes justice though, reckon you need something much funkier!

Amandoh · 28/06/2008 20:24

This one is pretty but not grey.

Amandoh · 01/07/2008 23:22

Stargazing did you buy a dress yet?

If not then this one is grey and has a ruffled neck but is a little darker than the Derek Lam dress.

Stargazing · 02/07/2008 00:04

you are such a swetheart! It's lovely - thank you

not buying the Lam one, way too expensive, could never live with myself.

nappyaddict · 02/07/2008 00:05

i actually prefer the cheaper one - it's more simple. what did you want to wear it to?

Pavlovthecat · 02/07/2008 00:07

They are both quite unflattering to be honest. Unless you have very long legs. Which you probably do!

Stargazing · 02/07/2008 00:12

never mind, never mind, have ditched the Derek Lam. Yes, legs are long but not very shapely. Anyway, I bought

this
