Hi

I'm late 50s and I'm really starting to look old and haggard 😕I've never had much of a skincare routine although I've tried many times to start one. I really can't be doing with a 7 step routine morning and evening, I just won't stick to it.

Can anyone please recommend something that's not going to put me off before I get started? I prefer to wash my face than use liquid/cream cleansers. I have a bit of rosacea but not really sensitive skin, I get the odd spot and have a crepey neck. I'm not worried about my wrinkles! I can't face going to a skin care counter, I get baffled by everything and come away with a bag full of stuff that cost a fortune and never use it!

ETA: I know there's no miracle cure for years of neglect, but hopefully there's something out there that can help before I start scaring young children in Morrisons!

If you don’t like a lengthy routine, I’d suggest doing a couple of steps, then if you feel you want to add to it, you can. Counters sell expensive products which are not necessarily any better than something you can pick up in the supermarket.

Most signs of aging are caused by dehydration or the sun, so I would focus on those.

I’d start with a hydrating cleanser. I use cerave hydrating cleanser in the shower. Then I would add one product to treat your skin. This could be a vitamin c, a hydrating essence or a serum - I’m happy to make suggestions depending on what you’d prefer. Lastly, a decent SPF that will take away the need for a moisturiser. I love Korean SPFs - am currently using Beauty of Joseon.

Evenings, I would cleanse and then use a retinal. Retinal is the only expensive product I use, but it really is worth it. I use Medik8. They have lots of different strengths and essentially you start at the bottom and work your way up.
