Hairdryer for long, thick straight hair

I don’t use a hairdryer, never have. I have thick curly hair which dries quickly and nicely naturally.

DD (14) has long, thick, straight hair. She puts aside while evenings to wash her hair! She used to have a little travel hairdryer that DM handed down to her, but that’s packed up (it’s not the fuse). I am looking to get her a new hairdryer, but don’t really know where to start.

Please could someone recommend something suitable! I have no idea what to look for in a hairdryer.

I’m not particularly flush at the moment archiving school hols, new uniform and DS’ 18th birthday coming up.

Using a hair dryer on long thick hair is going to ruin it....

anything will be better than a travel hairdryer. No wonder it takes her whole evenings!

What is your budget? I have tried Dyson Parlux and Shark. The Dyson is worth every penny but its is horribly expensive. You can get good deals on Parlux sometimes. However if you are looking for more budget options Babyliss do some lovely 4 in 1 styler dryers that I think a teen would like

buy some heat protection, conditioning masks for her as well. You can get some great budget options nowadays

How would you recommend she dries her hair? If she washes it in the evening, it’s not dry for school by the morning.

Drying hair has never been on my radar - I grew up with boys and curls! Even DM had short hair that she just blasted a bit.

Get yourself on Vinted for some really good bargains on hairstyling tools. I’ve got similar hair (although mine is wavy but I like to try it straight sometimes) and would recommend my GHD Speed - Knew they’re about 250 but you can probably get one on Vinted for under £150 if you can offer and wait!

If she has thick straight hair it has a smooth cuticle, which means it doesn't really absorb much water (unless it's dyed). What happens instead is the water gets trapped in between the strands because it lies so straight. A brush dryer, like a Revlon One Step (or any like this) will separate the strands and push the water off.

The key with hair like this is to maintain the smooth cuticle, so press it dry in a microfibre turban, then with a clawed hand, shake out the roots and press again. Then spray on something like Money Mist, just a little bit, then use the round brush hairdryer, holding briefly at the roots.

She can actually leave the ends as they will dry on their own, it's the roots where you retain that trapped damp. My hair will stay wet for 12 hours easily if I don't tackle the roots.
