Maternity wedding guest - Two weddings, two seasons, 24 weeks pregnant

Very fortunate that this October I will be attending two weddings, one in the northern hemisphere and one southern. Will be around 24 weeks pregnant and totally clueless on what dress to wear! Any advice very welcome, TIA!

Could I have one dress for both weddings? Not into bold colours or patterns.

So, Spring and Autumn? What sort of temperatures in each location?

Yes, i definitely think you can do it with one dress. Id go with a plain dress, and add accessories as appropriate.

I had a navy wrap dress that did all sorts of events while I was pregnant - including a wedding at 36 weeks!

Yes, same dress. Pashmina and heavier stockings if cold in North.
Any comfortable dress and flat shoes.

For me it would entirely depend on if any of the guests will be the same. I would be mortified if I turned up to the second wedding in the same dress if there were people attending that had seen me at the first one. I work with a woman who has worn the same dress to two occasions recently and I still can't get it out my head that she was photographed at both in the same dress. With sites like temu and shein that do great dresses for less than the price of a bottle of wine there is no need to been seen in the same dress twice.

Just because you can buy two dresses from fast-fashion merchants like Temu & Shein (the worst offenders of the lot), for next to nothing, doesn't mean you should ... All that water & energy used to produce something full of polluting harmful microplastics & illegal toxins, from overworked underpaid (mostly) women & (sometimes) children? And that is likely to end up in landfill sooner rather than later?

I'd happily spend more (ideally on something high-quality but second-hand, so maybe not even that much more?), & wear it to both weddings. Probably with different accessories - but if I thought I'd pulled together a really shit-hot outfit for the first wedding, then I'd absolutely wear the same again!

The planet is burning - & the huge growth in fast fashion over the last 30-ish years has contributed to the climate crisis & the deterioration of our environment. Why be "mortified" about wearing the same dress twice? Find a secondhand one that you love & wear it proudly!

What is your usual style, OP (aside from not liking bright colours or bold patterns)? Do you like small patterns including florals, or would you prefer plain?

What is your colouring & what colours do you like & suit? What height are you & what dress size are you? Do you have a budget, & does it need to cover bag/shoes/jewellery? What kind of venues are they being held in, & will they be a similar level of formality/relaxedness?

My first thought for a dress that would work for both was a silk one, as it can be worn barelegged with sandals, or with shoes/boots & tights if necessary. Fine cotton/linen dresses look summery, so most wouldn't work for the autumn northern hemisphere one. Will the weather in spring at the southern hemisphere one be markedly different?

(Sorry for the interrogation btw!! 😁!!)

That's ridiculous, though. There's no shame at all in wearing something in your wardrobe twice.

Forgot to ask, OP - are you happy to go for a stretchy body-con look that hugs your bump, or would you prefer something oversized/A-line/floaty that skims it? The usual recommendation is wrap or empire line, but it doesn't have to be.

Also, what length would you prefer?

This website might be worth a look, as it divides by trimester (some are actual maternity wear, some what they call bump-friendly). You can rent or buy, too (rental is slightly more than an average bottle of wine, more a decent bottle for Saturday night dinner!).

I liked these ones, though they may not be your colours or style. But you might get some ideas as to suitable cuts/shapes to look for?

I also love this COS maxi dress. Lots of different ways you could accessorise it for each wedding - cream, chocolate brown, red/orange/burgundy would all go, as would gold or silver.

Or, if you like a mini not maxi length, this is cut quite loosely & could be worn with tights & jacket for autumn.
