Cardigans or hoodies for tall woman

sortaottery · 20/08/2026 20:34

I'm a tall woman (6ft) with a long back and arms.

Also one who is rather sensitive to the cold. As autumn draws near, I'd like to buy either a long-sleeved cardigan or a zip-up hoodie or similar.

But, I'm picky! Apart from liking clothes that fit me with sleeves that don't stop above my wrists, I'm looking for:

  1. Ideally, something 100% cotton, definitely no polyester
  2. From a retailer with a clear interest in ethical production chains

I like softer colours -- oat, sage, darker blues, faded heather etc.

I'm fashion oblivious and willing to wear men's clothes if they're warm and comfortable.

I'm aware of big highstreet retailers like M&S, but my knowledge doesn't go much deeper than that. I'll pay well for something I really like.

Can you suggest any shops/brands that I should look into, or direct garment recommendations? Thank you 🙇

Lands end do quite a lot in tall. No prizes for ethics but no worse than anywhere else either.

Sorry, you wanted zip through - look at Land’s End Serious Swears range.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/08/2026 21:56

I’m long in the back, Land’s End work well for me.

Cotton Tradets have a good range of unisex hoodies, pretty big size range, too.

sortaottery · 21/08/2026 18:04

Thanks v much, all. It looks like Lands End is the common theme.

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads Thanks for mentioning Community Clothing. I hadn't heard of them before -- browsed their online shop and they do some interesting stuff.

@SmallShephard I'm saying this not as a correction, but because I'm a nerd and my mother has been telling me this for years and I can't help myself -- Cotton Traders is named after its founder Francis Cotton. It doesn't specialise in cotton clothes, though everyone thinks it does. The last time I checked, a lot of its range was majority synthetic. I'll see myself to the door...👀

I get mine from LTS but it’s probably unethical fast fashion. However I’ve yet to find ethical clothes that are tall enough or affordable

sortaottery · 21/08/2026 18:24

@notadroptodrink LTS have some nice cotton long-line hoodies this year. Rugby shirts too. I think their site has improved its filters or I've just got better at using them.

@Defiantly41 thanks! Going to check it out. Sounds like just the thing.

M and S men's department always do plain lambswool cardigans, colours are variable but usually a couple of good ones.

Ah, I didn’t realise that. Their rugby shirts are cotton, and very good quality. Sorry I was of no help 🌸

I had a great check shirt from Cotton Traders once -- sadly, after about 5 or more years of frequent wear, it started to dissolve. But I still keep it at the back of my wardrobe.

Unfortunately M&S's lambswool men's cardigans are now only 50% wool and the rest is polyamide 😭 The men's Autograph merino cardigans are pure wool and not too bad - they usually come in tall sizes which I'd recommend.
