Recommendations for size 20 tops with a flattering longer length

I’m looking for shirts/tops suitable for either work or casual that will fit a size 20 - but, are not too short that they show my stomach or are huge and tent-like and come halfway to my knees (like anything from YOURS, which I dislike).

Has anyone come across any particular tops and shirts that come to the top of thighs and roomy enough when you sit down?

High St prices like M&S, Next etc rather than £££ as I’m trying to lose weight and don’t want to spend too much.

Have you looked at Icicle Boutique or ASOS?

From what I see the brand Ulla Popken are long length tops. I use eBay and Vinted, I went to Germany around 20 years ago and got a lot of clothes. I planned to do this as there is a massive C&A over there. Someone told me there was a sale at UP shop and the staff were lovely and even swapped a jacket where the sales lady noticed a button was coming off. At the time DH told me the exchange rate equalled everything being half price compared to British prices at the time. Every time I get a bonus from my building society I spend it on either Marina Rinaldi or Ulla from those used clothing sites. I get a lot of complements about my colours and style I wear. There is a good amount of availability. The Ulla range last as I only just threw out a t-shirt that was 20 years old. I expect my Marina clothes to last as brand new those clothes are out of my price range. The sellers have all been interesting to deal with and some have commented they like knowing I am getting complemented on my clothes and that I enjoy wearing them. David Emanuel is another range I get from used clothes websites. Yesterday my cousin who is very well up on clothes was impressed with my choices and helped me sort out my wardrobe and I was pleased to find she thought I was correct wanting a few less things but did need a choice of things available. I didn't need to get rid of a lot of things.

I've had random finds from many places: M&S, TU (sainsburys) and sometimes nutmeg in morrisons. I haven't bought anything recently though so can't recommend a specific top. I agree with the tunic length of yours tops though. I bought some from matalan I had to return and although nice tops, they came half way down my thighs. I'm 168cm (5ft6) so not very short either.

What height are you, OP?

I know what you mean about overly long tops - I have a fat stomach these days, & my ideal top length is basically to the bottom of my stomach/crotch area & no longer. Anything longer - & I'm tall at around 5' 9" - makes me look shorter & wider, as it bisects me horizontally.

These Seasalt tops look like a possibility, as they're longer than normal T-shirts? On the model, they come to the bottom of her trouser zipper. For a size 20, it says that the top is 69.5cm long - which would come to the bottom of my crotch too. So if you're a bit shorter, it will come a bit further down. However, not as long as their "tunic" styles, which IMO do that bisecting thing I want to avoid.

They come in lots of colours, are organic cotton, are generously cut (some people say size down), & would see you into autumn/winter as they could be layered easily. And they could be worn casually or dressed up. If you buy two you get a reduction.

If you try them for size/length, & like them, there are several the same/similar on Vinted/eBay. Worth looking there, as you're losing weight! I'd double-check the length though, if it's a different top.

Some options for linen shirts/tunics on the M&S website (Autograph/Monsoon/Fatface/Live Unlimited). All on the long side, but not too long. Rolling up or folding up cuffs is good if you're on the shorter side - it helps make you look taller.

These are Jaeger at M&S, & if you're looking for something a bit smarter, I think they're lovely. Pricier but you could check eBay/Vinted?

Live Unlimited cotton/linen tees. They do ordinary & longer length - but even the ordinary ones are 70cm long, so if that's long enough to cover your stomach area I would definitely choose those not the longer ones. They look a bit baggy & swingy.

Btw, @Iftheskywasbkue , I realise that everything I've posted is either plain, or if patterned it's striped or (one) checked.

I am really fussy about patterns - I love them, including florals & abstract prints - but there are so many that I dislike & think look dated. I didn't spot any florals I liked in my searches above.

Plus, having a few plain tops & shirts/blouses is far more versatile. I find that I wear patterned skirts more than tops (& sometimes dresses), & keep my top half (& trousers - no patterned trews for me!) as a block colour. I hardly ever wear florals or fussy patterns on my top half these days.

From a quick skim of eBay for M&S Autograph tops (yes, I like the animal print!). These are all XL or 20 I think.
