Bargain silk vest - washing fear!

Got a gorgeous navy silk loose vest from Jaeger in M and S reduced from £89 to £26 yesterday, pleased as punch.

I’ve never owned silk though so am a bit scared of trashing it. I’m hoping if I wear it and hang it immediately afterwards it won’t get smelly or anything but it might get deodorant marks.

It says hand wash at 30 but if I wash it will it never be the same again? It’s so gorgeous!

I wash loads of silk, never had an issue.

My washing machine has a silk cycle. Does yours?

Buy delicates laundry liquid and hand wash cold. Roll up in a towel to get excess water off and dry flat as possible or on a hanger. Silk does fade colours when washed a lot so wash seldom. If you get oil on it dab with cornstarch first to blot the oil before handwashing.

I wash my silk pillowcase in the machine on the wool/silk cycle and it's fine. Most important thing is to make sure your detergent is safe for silk - read the small print!
