How to blow dry my hair.

I’m very bad at blow drying my hair - I generally let it dry naturally and then attack it with straighteners which makes it too straight. I can’t seem to find the balance between the frizzy hair which air drying leaves me with and the poker straight alternative. Any advice, tips or YouTube tutorials please?

What sort of hair do you have? Mine has a wave and more volume if I leave it to air dry but you need to find the right products to stop the frizz and maintain volume. Going into Autumn I’m going to try a diffuser if I need it dry quicker.

I swear by a heated brush type hairdryer rather than juggling the hairdryer and a separate brush. I have the revlon one step but I don’t think it particularly matters which one you go for. Start with damp hair (rough dry first if needed) and use a styling product suited to your hair type/a heat protectant first- I like the colour wow dream coat.

Color Wow Dream Coat Spray has made my hair easier to blow dry. I can't do salon level blow drying, but if I spray that and dry it while brushing it, I can get away without straightening it (still run them over sometimes though if there's bits flicking out here and there but it's not as big of a job).

Second the revlon one step. It’s saved me time and adds that ‘blow dry’ volume to my hair.

I was just about to suggest the heated brush rotating dryer. I have babyliss, but I imagine they’re all the same. I think it’s called “Big hair”

I only use it occasionally, but it gives me a nice bouncy blow dry.

I hate my hair being poker straight, and find it gets so damaged from straightening

I too have the revlon blow dry brush. It's fab. I have very thick hair so straightening it takes forever so I rarely bother. I just get it mostly dry with my normal drier then just the revlon brush which smooths it all oht and gives it a bit of shape. It even works if you've just woken up and need to fix your bed hair.

I have thick wavy hair prone to frizz if I don’t style it. I use a bit of oil then dry with a hot air brush.

Another suggesting the Revlon big hair.
wash hair, spray with protectant, leave in turban until half dry, spray again lightly with protectant and dry with the Revlon.

Thanks for all the replies - am off to research both the Colour Wow and the heated brush. I will see if I can find a YouTube tutorial!

I would use a hairdryer

OnlyGreenClothes · 16/08/2026 10:05

The Revlon One Step is amazing for a bouncy blow-dry. I don't pull it through over and over to get it dry like you do with a brush and hairdryer. I curl a section round the brush, leave it there for a bit then pull it out once it's dry. So easy.

Definitely, the one step is fantastic.
