Weight gain before son's wedding, unsure about expensive velvet jumpsuit

Help! I have bought a very expensive velvet jumpsuit for my son's wedding. Bought months ago, I've piled on the weight and now I look like a purple whale. Don't know what to do and can't afford to buy anything else
Thanks

Sell it and buy something else? Velvet sounds uncomfortable when is the wedding?

WeddingDressguest · 15/08/2026 06:37

The wedding obviously isn't for a while because you wouldn't wear velvet in summer. Can you lose enough weight that it doesn't look bad? Or isn't their time?

Quite honestly, the only people who can pull off jump suits are size eight and smaller, very few people look good in them.

ThisWildHedgehog · 15/08/2026 06:39

The jumpsuit sounds lovely, cut yourself some slack and enjoy the day. Who cares if you've got a little more to cuddle at the moment!

We always judge ourselves more harshly than others do. No one is going to a wedding to pick apart other people!

I think jumpsuits do favour the more slender . If you do not think you woll feel good in it then u need to find a way to get something different. U do not want to feel self conscious.

Can you borrow something from a friend? Or sell on vinted.
Velvet is unforgiving
Jumpsuits are unforgiving
When's the wedding as velvet suggests a winter one? Im which case you have time to loose some weight if you would like to?
This is a very special day you want something you feel comfy in, and so you can celebrate and enjoy the photos

Sell it and rent something? Lots of companies do ”high end” rentals now.

TheSquareMile · 15/08/2026 10:12

@marvelousmarmaladian

I would look at renting something, OP.

When is the wedding?

LoyalMintOtter · 15/08/2026 15:35

I would also look at renting.
However as it is a velvet (unforgiving) jumpsuit (also unforgiving) and you can actually get into it I would say the weight gain can only be 7-10lbs which you could lose.
You must also be quite a confident person - mother of the groom, purple jumpsuit is quite a thing.
What are you wearing with it? Sorry my interest has piqued.
enjoy the day!

Positivepositron · 15/08/2026 17:09

Can you link it or photo of you in it?
How much weight gain and how long until the wedding?
I love the sound of it so I'd be tempted to use it as a kick start for weightloss if you have enough time or just buy a new outfit if it was going to be too stressful.

Legolaslady · 15/08/2026 17:37

When is wedding?
Do you still love the outfit?
How much weight do you need to lose?

WonderingWanda · 16/08/2026 10:20

I disagree with everyone saying jump suits only suit small sizes. I'm a size 14 and have multiple jump suits which look good on me, it depends on the style. I still look like a size 14 but I do in anything I wear because That's my size.

How long till the wedding op? Could you do a low carb diet, I can lose bloat rathet than weight very quickly on a low/ no carb diet which always makes my clothes feel better.

I think the universe is sending you a message! Don’t forget those wedding photos are for ever……….

I agree, jumpsuits can look amazing on all sizes, it's all about the proportions.

Thanks everyone.
I'm in Australia and the wedding is this Saturday! Too late to lose weight. I've vhanged to a red floral wrap dress. I'm saving the jumpsuit for my niece's wedding in 2 months where I will not know anyone. It is confy, more burgundy than purple but I got the teletubbies in my head and that was the end of the idea of wearing it to my son's wedding.

The floral wrap dress sounds beautiful.

JacknDiane · 18/08/2026 06:57

That dress sounds lovely but id love to see your jumpsuit, if you are tall enough to carry it off it sounds fab.
