What should I wear to a daytime wedding with formal cocktail dress code?

I have been invited to a daytime wedding in September with a ‘formal cocktail’ dress code. My first question is what does that mean, googling tells me smarter than a summer frock but not a ball dress - but apart from that anything?! Second question - my googling tells me a jumpsuit is allowed and black is allowed but is this really ok? I have always been told black is not ok.

Don’t wear black to someone’s wedding, it’s really not done unless you know the bride is good with it, .and that dress is a bit much.

a jump suit can work yes, but only black if you know the bride is ok with it.

I was being lighthearted Op. I wouldnt know what to wear either!!!

I was hoping I could wear a (smart) black jumpsuit I already own, I’ll check with the bride about black and if that’s a no think again. I’m 52 5’6’ pear shaped (8 on top with minimal boobs, and a 12 on the bottom) I’m not a dressy person. Shift dresses make me look shapeless, fit and flare make me feel like Milly Molly Mandy and I live in black! Arghhhh
