Growing out my grey hair

I’m currently growing out my grey hair after over 20 years of dying it (dark brown). The old dark brown hair is now fading and looks incredibly dry, broken and also seems quite coppery in tone. Just wondered if anyone has had a similar situation and could recommend a shampoo/conditioner to use??

Follpwing with interest. For the last 5/6 years my hairdresser has dyed the roots light brown and put through ash and dark blonde highlights.

Seriously considering moving towards just light brown and ash highlights and letting the grey begin to blend in.

I find Elvive shampoo/conditioner quite good.

Mine was the same - I'd had about 15 years of blonde highlights and all over root colour to mask the grey and it was ruined. I tried all sorts, Olaplex, warm olive oil wrapped in clingfilm.... nothing worked. In the end I went for a dramatic cut, which also meant I lost the demarcation line and funnily enough I've kept it really short as it's now in such good condition and so much easier to manage.

I put a little bit on the ends after I've washed it (as a leave in conditioner) and it has massively helped my dry hair.
Quite reasonably priced in home bargains etc.

When I decided to grow out my dark brown hair dye I was in exactly the same place as you are now. Once my white roots got to an awful looking stage where there was no disguising them and I looked like a skunk or a badger, I went and had a load of blonde highlights to soften the line of the dark against the white/grey. Then I cut a fair bit off the length so the whole process wouldn't take quite so long.

It did look weird shade of blorange for a while but not quite so badgerish. 😂and obviously I had to resist the temptation to keep getting more highlights and to just sit it out. But the highlights did help soften the horrible blockiness of the dark hair against the root regrowth. I used a shampoo in enormous bottles really cheap from Amazon called Fanola No Yellow.

The whole growing out process took about 18 -20 months but that could be shorter or longer depending on how much hair you are willing to cut off to get rid of it quicker. I have loved having my natural white/grey and I wished I'd done it years earlier.

I still use the same shampoo weekly, just to keep my natural white bits nice and clean and sharp looking and not dull or yellowy.

I am completely white silver now.
