Has anyone had laser treatment for sun spots or hyperpigmentation?

Has anyone tried 'sun spot removal' as a way of getting rid of the hyperpigmentation spots either on face or hands? I've been looking at some before/after pics online and the procedure seems to be very effective in removing them. I've got one about 0.5cm on the side of my forehead which is fairly visible.

If you've had it done, did it go in one treatment or did you require multiple visits? and has it come back

I've been faffing about with vitamin c oil, tret etc, in the hopes that something will fade it, but this looks like a no-brainer one hit/gets rid option. Am I missing something?

Oh and if you've had it done - was it painful - I understand its a laser treatment.

I have. I had a big patch of brown hyperpigmentation under my right eye whjch was very obvious as I have very fair skin and it looked like I had a black eye.
I had one session of laser on the minimum setting.
At first I thought it hadn't worked but over a period of one month it comletely faded away.
I am really pleased with the results.
Its been a couple of years now and there are no marks there at all.
Id definitely do it again.

Not painful in the least.

yes for brown marks in my face had 2 sessions but it’s coming back a bit so not permanent you need to wear factor 50 all the time too or it will come back . Also goes very dark when you first have it done

This is what happened to me. Thought it hadn’t worked at all and had wasted the money. A few months later skin looked completely different. Very obvious in photos. Super happy and would do it again.

I had a large brown patch under my right eye. I had 4 sessions of laser treatment and it completely disappeared. However, despite religious use of spf 50 it has returned 2 years later

I have, works really well but (despite factor 50 every day) it's come back a couple of years later. I have olive skin which even with factor 50 tans really easily so once this summer is over I'll be having it all zapped again. Bloody menopause.

What sort of laser did you all have? I'm very tempted!

@Gettingbysomehow what kind of laser? I was looking into ipl, I ended up having cryotherapy on the aestheticians (trained nurse) advice, but it hasn’t worked.

The same sort of laser they use for tattoo removal. Sorry I dont know the name of it.i tried cryotherapy first and it didnt work at all.

Picosure laser worked well for my pigmentation. I've had it on my face and arms. One treatment really had an impact on both areas. I'm going to do it again after summer. I'm really careful with sun exposure (always wear a hat and spf 50) - but have been slack with spf on my arms.

I had IPL, I think that’s a laser, a couple of years ago.
The sunspots went dark, a bit crusty then came off.
Not at all painful and cost £80

I have a number of brown patches and have had laser lots of times. Some patches have gone snd others have not. The ones that haven’t gone are apparently too deep to respond

The surgery secrets programme on channel 4 that’s been on tonight had a lady having this. I had laser to tighten my tummy skin ( didn’t really make much difference to that but I’ve a couple of scars on my stomach (one 10 years old) and it really improved the appearance of these)

BBL Is fantastic for pigmentation .
I did 2 full face sessions and a third session where they just targeted what pigmentation was left.

Does it scab over? I have large areas on either side of my face so am reluctant as I cannot have a hugely scabbed face for however long!

Mine has come back too, despite daily 50+. Definitely hormonal for me also. They did tell me I’d likely need to get it done again at some point. I feel it’s worth it.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, it sounds like it's an effective procedure depending on which method is used. I'll have to do some more research before I go for it. I've seen it offered for about £80 and then from £195 so guess that's different lasers or methods.

I've had ipl but it didn't completely clear it. It needs doing again but I don't like having it done because I find my eyes are really sensitive to the bright flash (despite wearing special goggles) and it makes my face swell up.

I'd be interested to know if there are any treatments that don't cause this.
I've seen micro needling advertised for sorting pigmentation. Has anyone tried this?
