Is it normal for Vinted sellers to mislabel worn clothes as BNWT?

I’ve just started using Vinted in at attempt to get rid of my ever increasing stash of clothes now that my local charity shop is overwhelmed with donations.

a lot of the clothes I’m getting rid of have been worn once or twice - I buy something either for an event and it doesn’t translate into daily wear or I think it will work on me and it just doesn’t.

I am listing these items as very good condition, but increasingly seeing people list items as BNWT where it’s clearly been worn a few times.

What’s the deal - is this approach to be expected?

I think It’s quite common on vinted to list BNWT if worn but still in a decent condition. (I don’t).

No they shouldn’t be listing them with tags if they don’t have tags. It should be listed as very good condition. I’d report the listings although they don’t always do anything

If I see something I like and it’s listed incorrectly I’ll buy and then SNAD. Works every time

I think BNWT if never worn/washed.

BNWT means absolutely brand new, still with tags on to me. Not normal and if I received something that had obviously been worn I would raise it.

(I had the reverse recently where my item genuinely was brand new with tags - I had tried it on once, put it away and just missed the return period last year - and the buyer tried to claim there was all sorts of damage.😤)

Sent not as described. 9 times out of 10 you get a refund.

It’s when there is a photo of someone wearing it at an event yet it says never worn /or BNWT
I don’t like people modelling their own swimwear either and it says brand new, it doesn’t seem brand new when you have seen someone wearing it.

“The dress isn’t the one in the picture but another one” and it’s a dress that’s labelled as size 22, on a size 8 woman!

It is really cheeky to list something as new when it's been worn! It's not even BNWOT tags then, let alone BNWT!

Yes there's some unscrupulous sellers on Vinted, as there probably are on all selling platforms. However, there's a lot of genuine people there too. Just be careful, look at reviews and look very carefully at photos.

I have had 99% good experiences on Vinted to date (same over all the years on eBay too).

But I do tend to check/ask questions, & my bargains generally aren't £2 items - more like £40 for a dress that was £250, & the like.

BNWOT = brand new without tags (ie they've been cut off but it's not been worn - supposedly!)

BNWT = brand new with tags

I have had a couple of items that were sold as New or New with Tags - and clearly when they came were not.
I also see photos that are also clearly worn also listed as New....
Buyer beware, complain if it is not right.
Still, vast majority of sellers are great.

I’ve seen lots of shoes for example that at listed BNWOT and then in fairness show very detailed pictures of the soles but with wear, albeit minimal

This drives me irrationally mad. Listed as bnwot then in description only worn once or a few times. Then it’s not brand new is it?!

Agree! I feel like of they can't be truthful in the listing then the chances are higher the item won't be in a good state when it arrives, so I dismiss these type of listings immediately.

You need to report sellers doing this really, if you can be bothered. Brand new without tags doesn't mean worn. It's annoying.

thanks everyone - I was wondering whether it was one of those coded comms where there was an established and understood gap between what people said and what they actually meant.

I half felt it was encouraged by the description of “very good” which is accepting of minor flaws and can see why people wouldn’t want to list in that category if their item really was in perfect condition.

i’m not bothered to report anyone myself. But I haven’t actually bought anything. Maybe my opinion will change.

It drives me mad too. It’s just so incredibly dishonest and also deluded - if something has been worn, even once, it is not new.

A new trend i have noticed is people posting a photo of the item with tags but then saying it has only been worn once or twice…

you have to be a detective on Vinted. I still use it but I am extremely careful.
