How to keep feet soft and gorgeous

I look after my feet well but they are still dry and calloused at the heel and toes. They look fine. Everyday I wash them with a brush and a quick file down, weekly a more through file and then a pedicure every so often.

I use a urea cream every so often. I think this is what I need to do but what cream and how often.

I want lovely soft feet!

Any cream, every day. Per a podiatrist I went to.

ScotiaLass · 27/07/2026 12:20

You're supposed to use a urea cream every day (I don't but asked my podiatrist earlier in the summer!). They recommend CCS foot care cream which you can buy in Boots. Because I don't use it every day I rely upon using it with silicone lined socks once a week. The socks hold the lotion next to your skin all night and you wake up with lovely soft feet.

I don't think feet are supposed to be baby soft, that's my conclusion. They're supposed to be pretty tough so you can walk on them.
Sleeping with urea cream on them every night is as much as I can be bothered to do and that stops them getting really dry. But I can't always be arsed.

Madickenxx · 27/07/2026 12:22

Mine used to be dry and cracked. I now moisturise them daily before bed and they are lovely and soft. I use a foot scrub and a foot cream once weekly but other than that I just use magnesium butter or whatever body lotion I have to hand.

My thoughts too. Who wants ‘baby soft’ feet, especially on the soles which do all the hard work? Sounds like a recipe for blisters.

Silverbirchleaf · 27/07/2026 12:27

I like the Avon foot creams. They do a cracked heel one and foot moisturisers.

Troublein · 27/07/2026 12:29

Get a moisturising cream, the sort that comes in a tub and a pair of cotton socks.
Slather your feet in the cream before you go to bed, stick the socks so the cream stays on you not your sheets.

Wake up in the morning with softer feet.

redboxerclub · 27/07/2026 15:41

I think the key is every day! I use flexitol but is such a PITA : hard to get out of the tube and hard to rub in so I might try another cream. Off to look at ccs. Also I hate sleeping in socks

Me! I want baby soft feet!
I will come back and tell you if I achieve it and if I get blisters. My DH has baby soft feet and he is fine.

Good idea for a scrub too.

It annoys me that apparently if we want to wear sandals we need ‘respectable’ feet! I haven't got the patience to keep the back of my heels soft and smooth. A thread on here a while back was very dismissive of people who don’t put ‘the basic effort in’.
I have better things to spend the time energy and memory power on!

Bristolandlazy · 27/07/2026 15:50

I wonder if your physical activity levels and weight affect it. I'm over weight and often walk in the garden without shoes and I think that makes a difference. I think my feet were worse when I wore cheap flip flops all the time.

Good luck, I hope you get feet worthy of envy.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 27/07/2026 15:52

You need this: Boots Hard Skin Remover as it's amazing & then moisturise
I use mine in the shower and bath

Footlogix Very Dry Skin Mousse
Recommended by a podiatrist, it's expensive but a bottle lasts forever, absorbs really easily and with daily use has kept my feet lovely and soft.

I know what you mean about sleeping in socks. I've got silicone toeless ones which I sleep in though and find ok. It's my heals that are my problem area so that works well for me. I got mine on amazon.

crazycatladie · 27/07/2026 16:09

Urea cream every night has really improved mine

MyDarlingRose · 27/07/2026 16:14

Genetics. I have soft feet and 80% of shoes rip them apart. They bleed and it hurts.

caringcarer · 27/07/2026 16:27

You just need a battery pedi to take away any harder skin. Then moisturise. I used Dove in shower then Nivea moisturizer on my feet and I don't have any hard skin anymore. Nice when wearing sandals.

purplepuffa · 27/07/2026 17:39

I heard that filing hard skin is not a great idea because it just makes it come back tougher (i.e. feet are basically designed to harden up when they experience something rough so filing away the skin just encourages that!)

I think moisturisers are the way to go. My mum struggles with hard skin on her feet and swears by the Margaret Dabbs stuff.

HoldMyWine · 27/07/2026 17:43

Flexitol heel balm is the GOAT

magicpractice · 27/07/2026 17:46

mine are soft
I use a microplane foot file on dry feet once a week and a body scrub in the shower. Wash them daily with soap and an African net sponge
urea cream every night before bed

Bigminnie1 · 27/07/2026 17:50

I have tried everything and finally got these two things last week - Amope Pedi Perfect Electronic Foot File andGrocerism Urea Cream 40 Percent for Feet . I think ChatGPT recommended them and OMG, my feet are transformed. The Amope got rid of all the hard skin and been using the urea cream daily- first time in my life have had soft non - crusty feet!

Culpeper · 27/07/2026 17:54

I have no hard skin on my feet whatsoever. This is mostly luck, I think. But I do use a foot file (one of those battery operated ones) in the bath once or twice a week. I have Flexitol but rarely use it (due to no hard skin), although I do include my feet and soles in my body moisturising twice a day. I do my own pedicures once a fortnight.

My eyes are always drawn to manky feet on others.

Freyarw · 27/07/2026 19:57

Urea and shea butter have made my feet feel relatively soft.

You need to apply them every day.

HoldMyWine · 27/07/2026 20:33

Yes it takes seconds to slather some cream on your feet. I do judge manky feet I’m afraid.

ThisWiseRobin · 27/07/2026 20:37

OK no laughing please.
I bought paw cream for my dog. He just licks it off so stopped using it.
Next Thing I look at the ingredients. Coconut oil, shea butter and olive oil.
It's made me and my husbands feet like a baby.
