Best kids raincoat with hood that covers their head!!!

My kids have had the JoJo Maman Bebe pack away coats that have a peaked hood for years. They’re great but they’re too old
now and I can’t find a decent alternative. Why don’t all raincoats have a peaked hood? We end up with soaking wet fringes with all other coats. Recommendations for coats with a peaked hood or just a big hood? We walk everywhere so need to be very waterproof. Thanks

I don’t have an answer but I’d like to know this too! I always get the Polarn O Pyret coats for my two (in the sale or secondhand) which are fab, particular how they layer with the matching fleece or puffa, but the hoods aren’t great - as you say no peak. I have sometimes got them to wear a cap underneath in a pinch? If we are walking to school and it’s torrential I usually get them to bring an umbrella as well - but yeah it would be better if the hoods were better!

Thanks I have looked but still doesn’t seem that popular a feature. This is what I mean - the little visor on the hood is brilliant, keeps the whole head dry.

Go for style instead!
Since I started wearing a hat (trilby/fedora type thing) I've stopped bothering with anything else, they're brilliant. I don't even use an umbrella now.

My daughter has one from Muddy Puddles. Has a peaked hood, and is longer at the back so that she can sit down without a wet bum. Really recommend.

The Berghaus ones are fab and about the same price as JoJo ones if you catch them in the sale at millets or gooutdoors. I’ve had both of the belowover the past few years. I got the 3 in 1 version for my two this year so they can wear them in winter as warm coats and when it’s warmer they can just use the waterproof bit. I’ve bought several over the past 6 years as DS has outgrown them and then DD has inherited them and they are still on good condition after being used by both of mine and they are outdoor, climb tree, jump/roll in mud type kids, hence the need for good coats 🤣

Another vote for outdoor brands. After JoJo, I started getting North Face jackets for DD (either in the sale or from Vinted).

I found the POP raincoats very disappointing - would not buy again. They get soaking wet and heavy in proper rain and the fleece to line has no poppers in the sleeves or cuffs so it just comes apart every time they take the coat off! Would not buy again.

Frugi did some good raincoats but haven’t looked recently.

Buy proper coats not fashion ones. The kids equestrian brands are good, made of real waterproof fabrics and hardy zips etc. Lemieux, Ariat etc. You’d pay hefty but be handing them down after use.

Wet Wednesdays are so much better than all other brands. My daughter is at forest nursery and she’s never come home wet wearing WW.

Mountain warehouse have a good range of children’s coats.

@katobd we had a Wet Wednesdays coat a while back and it didn’t get worn much because the material makes them too hot! The designs are probably a bit babyish for my very particular 9 year old now too!!

They’ve been really good for my two. DD was
more mud than child in Feb half term when we went to a Country park - she lost a welly in the mud which my nephew had to retrieve for her 🤣

She was perfectly dry underneath (except the socks), we rinsed the coat and waterproof trousers off in the shower at the hotel and hung them to dry and all was well for the rest of the week.

I’ve been buying Berghaus for all of us for years. DS (9) is on his third one (two outgrown and passed to DD)
