Dressing my skinny fat body

I am a size 10. I have been very slim all my life, very flat chested and square shouldered. I have always been self conscious about my middle, especially a wide waist. This has got worse since two kids and hitting late thirties and I just don't know what to wear anymore.

I am 5' 8" and 9 stone 13 lbs. This puts me towards the lower end of healthy on the BMI scale, but all the fat I have is around the middle. I have no waist and look a few months pregnant sometimes.

I am trying to tone up by watching my diet and starting weight sessions, but what can I wear?!

Everything I see on other people and on shops is designed to sit at your slimmest point. But I have wide ribs, a flabby stomach, and not much bum or hips.

Please suggest flattering styles. Ideally in tops and skirts or trousers. Casual.

Thank you :)

Perhaps a slightly cropped but boxy t-shirt with wide leg, high-waisted trousers? I’m not too dissimilar to you by the sounds of it in being slim but flat chested and I find this flattering.

im 5’7 and about 9st, my hips are really wide but I have quite a narrow waist, I find high waisted wide legged trousers are okay with a tshirt but I hate anything cropped as my stomach is a mess from 3 lovely (and one very large) dc 😂 it looks like a wrinkled paper bag and nothing I want to be flashing. Tucking in tops does help but then you get bunching of material under the fabric of the trousers which looks stupid or I have to spend time smoothing and faffing every time I stand up or sit down or move. So I basically live in dresses! Or dungarees…
i do have a few long skirts that I tuck a fitted vest into when it’s nice weather, not so much issue with the bunching.

I am similar to your size I think (height and weight). What matters is proportions of clothes. So it is worth investigating your torso vs legs measurements. have a google.

Thanks, this is helpful! I have longer legs (mostly longer thighs) but I've not heard of dressing for proportions before.

Thanks. It's the lack of waist I struggle with. Wherever I put my waistline sits at a wide point so it's hard to know what to accentuate.

I think this is mostly what I go for. But my relatively large waist and ribs means that everything is then too big around my hips and bum. I do like a cropped boxy top though, as long as there's no midriff showing.

I’m afraid this doesn’t come under your idea of ‘ideal’, but what you actually want right now is probably … dresses. Sorry! (These are very cool.):
