Raincoat styles that work well with wide leg jeans?

Can anyone recommend what style of raincoat to wear with wide leg jeans? I had a green dry robe type coat last winter but saw a photo of myself and I looked like a short wide Christmas tree 🌲 not the look I was going for! I think shorter jackets are better with wide legs from a proportion point of view but then my jeans get soaked. I’m 5’3” and can look a bit dumpy, and generally go for petite when I can. Thanks in advance!

Cropped trench (will look good but be pointless at actually keeping you dry)

Long belted slightly A-line. My winter coat is this shape and looks fab with wide leg, so I think would work as a maxi mac type coat.

Damson Madder have had some good raincoats with a belted waist that look good with wide legs. They are shorter but properly waterproof. Worth a look.

I think this style, in petite, is exactly what you need. Pricey though - but it is a classic item. It might go in the sale soon?

There is also this Hobbs one in petite - but I think it's a bit too short to work well with wide jeans. The ones above look longer - I think they should hit around the upper calf.

Agree, I have a Hobbs mac and it’s a really stupid length. It works with skinny cigarette pants, one very specific skirt length and nothing else.

Thank you so much for these and for taking the time adding the photos and links 💕 I’ll have a good look. If I was to step away from a trench though, and towards something warmer and more casual (eg doggy walks) what else might work?

For casual, Seasalt Janelle gets a lot of love on here and comes in petite.

You could also look at other Seasalt if the Janelle is too long / too much Dryrobe vibes. (I don’t think it is, apart from the dipped back hem, as it is quite fitted, but Mr Scarlet said it was Dryrobe when I tried one on!)

I dont like long coats with wide trousers, I tend to wear jackets. Not as dry obviously but thats that!

I think Hobbs clothing is like that generally - lots of their dresses, skirts etc are cut to just below the knee or the upper part of the calf. It's often what makes them look slightly dated, IMO.
