How do you decide which haircut actually suits you?

It's been long, short, pixie, bob and anything in between you can think of. They all look... fine.

I think I must have an unremarkable face shape as I don't think I've ever had a haircut that 'did something' to the appearance of my face.

I'm not sure whether I've just never found the right style for me or whether really anything will work.

How on earth do you decide what to do with it? It's a bit in-betweeny at the moment and I need to decide whether to go short again or leave it long.

The opinion of those close to me: "you always look nice". Which is kind but unhelpful in this context (and possibly untrue).

I feel most of the women I know have had pretty much the same hairstyle for years and know what suits them. Maybe I just haven't worked out who I am with it yet but I'm 50 so if I haven't got it by now ....

Ive had the same haircut for years. I dont know if it suits me 😂

I choose it bc I like the length (shorter doesn't feel like me, longer gets on my nerves); I dont like hair lying against my ears or on my face (apart from my fringe); I can style it in 10 mins with a hairdryer and round brush which is as long as my available attention span; it suits my hair type (much as I would love a sharp sleek bob).

I do think this is a good question for AI though. Upload a photo and ask it to show you differentsuitable styles. Tell it not to enhance your face at all (it will!). But then challenge it - why is this haircut supposed to suit me, why this one and not that one, etc?

I think blunt cut shoulder length is pretty universal with some shaping.

The other one I think is pretty universal is Kate Middleton or Victoria Beckham length.

The reason I think that is
a) shoulder length adds horizontal width so can help balance your body if you have say wider hips
b) waist length creates a 'one third / two third' visual styling which is flattering (rule of thirds - create interest in thirds).

Obviously all rules can be broken.

I had a pixie cut in my 20s, then went long, am now going back to shoulder but slightly regretting it. I want long with layers again. It's the in-between growing it part that is a faff. Got to lots of carbs and green veg to help hair growth :)
