Bad reaction to Philips Lumea anyone?

Just wondering if any one else has experienced this?
I bought a Philips Lumea a few weeks ago, I followed the patch test instructions and everything was fine so I cracked on and did my lower legs on the highest setting. The first treatment was fine, nothing untoward. Second treatment I had a few red spots but put that down to going over a bit of razor burn I had.
I did the third treatment last night and all hell seems to have broken loose on my legs over night. I have woken up to swollen itchy red bumps all over my lower legs. I'm currently applying an ice pack to try and sooth it a bit, I'm contemplating asking a pharmacist to take a look. Pretty bummed out because I had high hopes after reading all the good reviews on mumsnet 😢

I jusy couldn’t get along with mine! Ended up selling it - I think my hair was potentially too thick/dark as the machine would quickly become very hot and start to burn mid treatment.

Was so excited for a quick/easy solution rather than investing in laser but alas it wasn’t to be.

That could be my problem too, I have very thick fast growing dark hair (I could honestly shave every single day) maybe I'm just too hairy 😳 it's annoying because they're not cheap either!

I only ever use setting 3 (i have an older model) and my hair is thick and dark and it worked brilliantly I think maybe it was too high a setting ?

Just to be clear, are you doing the treatments two weeks apart?

Yes been following the instructions to the letter, starting with the patch test and then two weeks apart. I think I'm going to have to wait a while and then maybe do a larger patch test on level 3 and see what happens. The red bumps all seem to be around the hair follicles, they look very inflamed, hopefully they at least fall out after this

I think they have a 30 day returns policy? You could contact customer support and ask them what might be causing the reaction or just ask to get a refund.

I had this once - not the first time I’d used it by any means, just a random time and only on one calf. Very itchy and annoying while they lasted. Still no idea why it happened. It never did again.

I read at the time that it was a histamine reaction and some people take an anti-histamine before they use their IPL.

Thanks for the replies. It is very itchy so could be a histamine reaction, that's interesting. I've been covering it in E45 itch relief cream which has helped a little, it's looking less swollen but still very spotty. I'll definitely investigate a refund after I've tested it on a lower setting. It will have been more than 30 days but I might as well ask, 30 days would only cover two treatments which isn't really long enough in my opinion
