Hair colouring at home?

I pay £90 for a cut and colour every 12 weeks She use Demi permanent. But I don’t understand what that is. The grey comes through at the front quickly.

I no longer have balayage. And I have super fine hair that take very little product and no time to dry or cut. this feels like a rip off tbh.

can I just dye at home? She says it colour between a 5 and 6. Brown hair

Does your hairdresser do one colour all over? That will be easier for you to do at home than if she’s doing highlights etc.

If you do, bear in mind box dyes tend to come out darker than they look on the pictures.

Brands like Loreal Casting are demi permanent (they say they are semi permanent but as soon as you have to mix the colour and developer together, that’s demi permanent).

A 5 is darker than a 6, so go for something starting with a 6. Level 5 will be pretty dark brown and 6 more medium brown. Semi and demi perms do fade/wash out. Don’t choose a permanent one as this won’t wash out and you’ll have to wait for it to grow out if you don’t like it or want to change the tone in future.

The box will have one or two other numbers eg 645, Google ‘hair dye numbers’ and it will explain - like this:

If you can post a pic of your current hair I can suggest an demi perm box dye. I’ve pretty much used them all!!

How do you stop the stripes you get by home colouring? I put it on the roots first then just pull through the rest of my hair for 10 mins to blend… the stripes don’t happen when my hairdresser does it 🤷🏻‍♀️

I go to a chain called Celly's that charge I think £28? for a root touch up.

In between visits, I use shade 8 packs to recolour. There are even special root touch up packs that are very quick to use. Also, I use spray on colour if there are greys showing and I don't have time to recolour. I haven't noticed stripes, but by colouring the roots, they remain dark but there are now lighter streaks growing through in my hair, which I quite like.

Maybe you overlap a bit too much? Does your hairdresser use a brush for precision?
