Skincare for Teenage Daughter

Im looking for recommendations for skincare products for 14 year old DD. She is using Bubble products at the moment but her skin isn’t looking great (not that I’d say that to her) so just looking for some other recommendations particularly for cleansers. It’s looking very dull and congested right now. She has fairly normal skin which can be sensitive at times .

How do you mean congested, like spots/blackheads/whiteheads?

Actually not too bad on the blackheads but getting spots more frequently

47 Skin and Medic8 are good for spot prone skin.

47 skin did absolutely nothing for DS. He uses Dermalogica foaming wash and has been prescribed benzoyl peroxide gel and an antibiotic from the GP, he also uses CeraVe moisturiser.
He’s upped his water intake too which has helped I think.

Cerave cleanser definitely.

The Byoma moisturiser for acne prone skin (pale blue square pump bottle, can’t remember the name) is good. Contains salicylic acid and very lighweight.

Treatment creams: different things work for different people. Off the shelf you can try niacinamide (The Ordinary) azaleic acid (various) or benzoyl peroxide (Acnecide & various others). Exfoliants (BHA) like Pixie Glow Tonic or Paula’s Choice can help some people.

Be cautious with all these especially on young skin. Try one at a time only and stop if any irritation/dry patches.

Spot stickers (eg Starface, but many cheaper options available) are good for bringing out deep spots.

For something stronger go to the GP and ask for Duac or Epiduo - but these will bleach fabric so be careful especially about bedlinen/PJs.

47 skin has done nothing here either.

Clean and Clear cream wash is good, cheap and not too harsh.

Acnecide products are good as well because they have benzoyl peroxide.

However skincare can only do so much, give it a month or so then if it doesn’t help go to the GP.

The occasional spot that clears up is fine, more than that and it’s a skin condition that needs proper treatment. I spent years with crappy skin and wish my mum had taken me to the doctor.

La roche posay astringent cleanser is great for breakouts but can be drying. Worth trying as it has done wonders for my teens skin.

Thanks everyone. To be fair it’s definitely not bad enough to see the gp . I think her current skincare routine isn’t suiting her and there is so much on the market nowadays I’m addled by it all. I think she might not be cleansing correctly and she is great for wearing spf so I’m wondering is it too heavy for her skin and causing her breakouts. Thanks again for all the replies

Make sure the moisturiser is labelled non-comedogenic and a face wash with an acid in will help smooth out the congestion

minipie · 20/07/2026 16:10

Ah ok. Yes a lot of spfs will cause breakouts for those who are susceptible.

Peridot1 · 20/07/2026 16:16

Is she double cleansing in the evening? One cleanse to remove the SPF and any make up and then a second cleanse to properly cleanse the skin. She can use the same cleanser for both or use a different one for the second. Just make sure they are gentle. I just saw someone recommend a Superdrug wash off cleanser in a blue bottle called Hydrate. Or Byoma range is good.

Don’t make too many changes at once.

IFancyGregDavies · 20/07/2026 16:17

Another thing that seems to have made a difference for DS has been changing his pillowcase and face cloth daily.

this stuff is amazing. Totally cleared DS’s spots (they are normal teen spots not acne - so white heads and red raised bumps). His skin is a little greasy rather than dry. This oil is also greasy but if he uses it at night the redness reduces by morning. If he uses it daily he gets very few if any spots.

He doesn’t wear makeup ofc so doesn’t have anything to clog pores. But he swims several days a week and plays sports most days so does get hot and sweaty most days.

My younger DD also uses it and although she isn’t as spotty she has started to get a few and again this stuff works.

Very impressed tbh. Also sold on Amazon.
