Tarnishing Tiffany's necklace - tips?

I was given a beautiful silver Tiffany's necklace for my birthday

The first time I wore it for 4 hours, it tarnished.
I rang Tiffany's who said it was normal in the heat because it reacts to your perfume/sweat

I cleaned it. I wore it again Saturday night.

Same thing.

Am I going to have to clean this necklace every time I wear it?!

It's the only necklace I've ever known to do this.

No but I’m watching because I wrecked a bracelet by wearing it in the hot tub last year! I need to know how to get it gleaming again.

I might be missing something here?

Have you tried a silver jewellery cleaner (like Swirl or Goddard's) and then the same is happening again?

In my experience, it is a reaction with perfume. Some perfumes react worse than others though. Trial and error unfortunately.

I have a Tiffany silver bracelet must be 20 years old. Worn occasionally but prefer bangles and my tennis bracelet (which I lost recently 😭) dug out my Tiffany and horrified it tarnished after few wears, I actually wondered if I had been sold a fake. Spoke to Tiffanys and they said same, heat, sweat and perfume. I have always sprayed perfume liberally and it hasn't tarnished any other jewelry.
I used silver polish cloth and it looks fine but when tarnished it looks like a cheap silver plated fake. It will need cleaning regularly, not pleased.

Silver tarnishes, there's nothing Tiffany or anyone else can do to stop a natural chemical reaction. Probably why platinum is popular, if you can afford it.

I would change my perfume! Apparently you shouldn't really spray it around the neck anyway.
For it to tarnish after one wear is some serious chemicals and sweat going on.

Yep, it's a feature of sterling silver. Just use a silver cleaner.

I clean my silver jewellery using a bowl lined with foil, a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda & some freshly boiled water. Leave the jewellery in for about 15 minutes, rinse & dry. Always comes up shiny. I also wear my necklaces in the shower & that tends to clean them of moisturiser etc They aren't Tiffany though, one is from an Etsy shop and the other is an Annie Haak necklace.

I've got lots of cheap silver jewellery that has never tarnished, some of it I've had years! I'd be very disappointed if I spent Tiffany prices and it tarnished, didn't even know this was a thing

The only piece of jewellery to tarnish in my collection is the Tiffany bracelet! Typical.
I get all my jewellery professionally cleaned every year so that I don't have to bother.

Yes, I cleaned it with Goddard's after its first wear.

Interesting that several of you have similar experiences with Tiffany's jewellery. I have several pieces, and this is the first I've known to tarnish so quickly.

My diamonds by the yard necklace tarnishes really badly, I've had it for sixteen years and didn't wear it for a long time. I've started to wear it every day and it looks better but even freshly cleaned it's not great. I might take it in to be cleaned professionally but it is a bit odd.

I can't believe how expensive the same necklace is now, I'm quite certain that my partner did not spend anything like that when he bought it! But if I had spent £1300 on a silver necklace I certainly wouldn't expect it to tarnish so easily.

I have a Tiffany necklace that I wear most days which seems to stop it from badly tarnishing, but equally, it's silver, so it tarnishes?

My Tiffany necklaces and bracelets don’t tarnish easily, I wear one of each for months on end. The earrings are another matter and need a clean after two weeks.

It seems to tarnish much more quickly than other silver jewellery though, which has been quite noticeable.

I wear mostly silver jewellery and the only things that have ever tarnished are my Tiffany kisses ring and my Alex Monroe bee pendant!
Very annoying as my cheaper silver stuff (still proper Sterling though) seems to withstand everything!

I’ve worn a solid silver bangle for the last 30 years and it’s never tarnished. It’s been in many pools, hot tubs, seas and has perfume sprayed on it most days.

I’d want a refund on jewellery I couldn’t wear.

Goddard’s long term silver polish might help unless that’s the one you’re using? If it is then you might have to get used to running a silver cloth over it every time you wear it. Unless I was wearing something like moisturiser that was reacting with the silver, I’d want my money back!
