Giving up on all trousers

Struggling with all trousers and jeans I have done for ages now! They all come up way to high on my waist like to my boobs!

I love wearing dresses so I'm going to stick with them and also try some skirts. But what do I do in chilly wet days in the summer? Warm sunny days is fine and in the cold winter tights and boots but what the in the between or summer days when in a chilly?

Er? Some trousers are not high waisted! Plenty in fact. Look for a different style.

If you give your height and clothes size and a budget I’m sure posters could direct you to some useful options, @lisa270988.

Options for being warmer with skirts/dresses I wear include - cotton underskirts/slips, cropped leggings (shorter than hem length), socks and boots in cold &wet

I don't understand the question. I don't own trousers. I wear weather and temperature appropriate skirts, dresses, tights, socks and footwear. It's not a problem.

I actually find most trousers are too low cut because I have a tummy bulge to cover up. But skirts/dresses come in all weights don’t they? Or wear a long cardigan or coat over the top?

DrumsPleaseFab · 19/07/2026 12:24

I find almost all trousers much too high waisted too and I am 6ft tall 😅😅😅

But dresses and skirts can do a Marylin Monroe in wind, and chub rub is a factor in heat. Therefore it's trousers all the way for me apart weddings/special occasions.

I've no problem with trousers, but I don't wear jeans they just don't look right on me. I find trousers cooler in the heat (light viscose/cheesecloth muslin type fabric). I have to take the hem up on all my trousers even petite. I'm 5.4 but I really think they are making lengths for long skinny giants these days. 😊

It must be to do with the cut, then I suppose, because I’m 5’11” 😀

So in the summer on a day where it's a bit chilly like where today where I am it's only 18 degrees I don't no what to do I have all my summer dresses out which i would normally where with nothing on mu legs and sandles but my legs feel cold bare.
But I never think my summer dresses look right with tights

I don't wear open toe sandals. In hot weather I wear fisherman's sandals or canvas plimsoll type shoes like these
Moonstar
or very soft leather ballet flats.

and these Le Bonne Shop socks

I don't however see a problem with good quality sheer tights

You could wear sheer tights, either natural or black in the summer when it is cooler. I have some summer tights that are so natural they look invisible but keep my legs warm if I am at work with air con on or cooler on a night. I get them from https://www.tightstightstights.co.uk/collections/tights

Just wear slightly thicker, longer dresses, maybe with longer sleeves on cooler days, switch to shoes instead of sandals, perhaps a cardigan. I wear dresses all summer and trousers all winter, never wear tights, I hate them.

Buy trousers a size bigger and wear lower down. I do this with shorts. There are lots of mid rise jeans and trousers around though.

POMSFlowerInsectTimedCount · 27/07/2026 10:53

I share your sentiments. I like trousers that sit on my hip bones. A style that works really well for me is the Decathlon summer golf chinos. There's a decent choice of colours and the quality is excellent (or was when I bought mine a few years ago). I find the fit a little looser than shown on the model and the size guide is accurate. They look exactly like ordinary chinos.
I think these linen mix trousers have a similar mid-rise waist, but it's partly elasticated. I tried them last year, but didn't keep because I found the seams inside irritating. They might have improved the finish this year or it might not bother you.

At the other end of the price scale these Poetry linen trousers have a mid-rise waist. I liked the style and found the size guide accurate, but decided the linen was too thick for summer - it does look and feel almost like soft denim, so calling them linen jeans is quite appropriate. They might have other mid-rise styles, but I can barely afford their sale prices so didn't consider anything full price. Because they give actual garment measurements you can work out how high the waist is on the different styles (the photos are surprisingly unhelpful in that respect).
