Is saying "not too short" to a hairdresser like a red rag to a bull?

I have a posh do tomorrow. Have the dress, shoes etc. Went for haircut today and now have style of a 1950s schoolboy. It'll be fine in about 2 months...

Nothing I can do about it now except vast use of "product" and hoping for best, but it really doesn't do anything for me.

Surely they should be able to see what makes you look good and what makes you look haggard?

I did say "not too short", but I suppose that's relative to the style the hairdresser has in his head?

Yes, IME.

It's a code for "short back and sides" or "number 2 all over" in verey hairdresser I have ever visited.

Get some pretty clips and use whatever to sculpt it, and evertyone will appalud your funky, cutting edge hair do.

I'm still going out the mullet my hairdresser gave me about 6 months ago

Clips is a good idea but I have never used them. Not sure I currently have enough hair to get one in, but will scour Accessorize at station tomorrow morning...

I always have the opposite problem and they never take enough off, so I only got about half a haircut.

I am always happiest with my hair about a week before it really goes haywire...Half a cut would be just the job.

I get the opposite! I say short, - very short, and they finish with barely anything off!

I think they're worried that it'll be longer before I come back!

I had a hideous hair cut just before Christmas (when I had lots of nights out/parties to go to) Bloody typical. I took a picture in of a chin length bob with slight layers and came out looking like a cross between Rod Stewart and Martina Navratalova
