Hello DD is very self conscious about this mole with hair it's a dark brown mole which is fine but can she do anything about the hair ? It's on her cheek and obvious .

Can’t she just pluck them?

chirrupybird · 14/07/2026 12:40

Pull them out? If there's no medical reason not to.

EclipseoftheHeart1 · 14/07/2026 14:18

Thank you ! Yes she does pluck them or cut them but is looking for a longer term option .

Laser hair removal isn't recommended for hair that's growing out of dark moles, as the laser can damage the mole as well as the hair and cause problems.

I think she'd need to get the entire mole removed. Or just keep plucking the hairs.

noramoo · 14/07/2026 15:31

I have a couple of these, I just pluck them - annoying but as far as I am aware no other options at present

TonTonMacoute · 14/07/2026 15:39

I have the same. I have been plucking the hairs with no problem. I'm now over 60.

As PPs have said you don't really want to be messing with a mole if you don't have to. How arduous is it just pluck the hairs once in a while?

FlapperFlamingo · 14/07/2026 15:43

I had one on my face it cost £580 to get it removed privately and took a few minutes and no pain. Is that something she could do?

MegMortimer · 14/07/2026 16:02

I also had a mole on my face which sounds similar to your daughter's, OP and I also had it removed. I used to just pluck the hairs out. As I aged, it got bigger and bigger, although it was benign. I found that it was pulling focus on some people when they were speaking to me, and they ended up speaking to the mole.

stayathomegardener · 14/07/2026 18:57

I had electrolysis on mine 30 years ago (not sure if that’s considered safe nowadays) it definitely slowed down the growth at the time but it ramped up over the years so wasn’t a permanent solution anyway.

I just pluck mine out, a set of Tweezerman tweezers by my bed, in my bag, in the car etc. It’s definitely a pain having to remember.

I guess I could have had the mole removed but actually really like it.

JudithsDead · 14/07/2026 19:10

I had a mole with hairs growing out of it. Over time, plucking irritated and inflamed the mole and it became bigger and paler. Best thing to do is have it removed.

EclipseoftheHeart1 · 15/07/2026 09:56

@MegMortimer @FlapperFlamingo did getting rid of the mole also get rid of the hairs ?

Thanks did you get yours removed and if so did it stop the hair ?

When they cut out the mole the follicles go with it. So yes it will remove the hair

Castaspella · 15/07/2026 10:29

Depends where it is - I have one like this on my neck (the front, like the side of my throat) . am desperate to remove it as so many thick hairs grow out of it, but the GP told me the neck is a tricky area so best just put up with it

Yes it did, actually. I wasn't sure if it would, but it did.

LBFseBrom · 15/07/2026 10:55

Remove the hair.

MrsFionaCharming · 15/07/2026 14:16

The woman who did my facial electrolysis said there’s a special course if you want to be able to do moles, so presumably it’s possible

SeasideDaisy · 15/07/2026 14:19

I had one on my cheek and got it removed, this was 2024 and cost £150. It was burnt off, quite painful to be honest but I’m pleased I got it done.

Wowisthisit · 15/07/2026 14:29

I had mole I've hated all my life on my chin. Like a little raisin. I had it removed at 50 and it has changed the way I look at my face. I am so happy I had it done and wish I had done it before. I have no scar nothing.
I was having plastic surgery at the time and mentioned it to my surgeon and he shaved it off and then used a special healing plaster on it. Had to wear the plaster for a week and then it was like it had never been there. Best thing I've done.

Chocolateteabag · 15/07/2026 14:59

I have “the family mole” in the middle of my cheek - keep plucking the odd hairs which sprout from it - they do seem to be less now I’m 50+
one of my brothers and an aunt have had theirs removed - both have scars as a result - so I’ve decided mine can stay so long as it behaves for now

AllWasWell · 15/07/2026 15:03

I finally had 2 facial moles removed a couple of months ago. One which would sprout hairs. Had them burnt off. Wish I got it done sooner. Had a little white scar for a while but it’s fading and way less noticeable that the mole was. Also no hair since removal

EclipseoftheHeart1 · 16/07/2026 09:11

@AllWasWell that's brilliant how much did it cost ?

So I was actually a ‘model’ for them to take social media photos for the removal of 2 was only £100. Not super helpful sorry!

AllWasWell · 16/07/2026 09:59

If it helps at all. Photo of before (can even see some little hairs I hadn’t plucked yet 😂) . About a day after the procedure and how is looks now. You can still see a slight scar but honestly so much better
