Could this line on my gel manicure be nail damage?

Got a gel manicure last week and noticed this line today. Hope the images show it OK I am just wondering if anyone knows what it can be? It is too low down to be dirt 😳

Is it not just wear and tear on the polish?

PumpkinSpicedTea · 14/07/2026 11:47

I'm hoping so. It isn’t on the first layer so might be on the colour? Is it normal to happen after a week?

If there was no line there when they did your nails then most after about 48 hrs is down to aftercare not usually something they have done. It’s possible you have bent it back without noticing or caught it there could be loads of reasons. Drop them a message and ask for a fix I’m sure they are used to it 🥰

@boiledsweeties thanks. I was thinking it was more something I've done but just wondered if it is normal. Google kept bringing up scary suggestions 😂 Just found it strange being a line and looking black.

if it was fine a week ago then I would be amazed if it’s anything sinister. Get them to take the polish off and take a photo of it if it’s still there and then if you are really worried you can show the doctor. It might actually just come off with the polish 🥰

Edited

The black line that could be a sign of cancer won’t suddenly appear in a week, and not in that direction anyway.

It could also just be dirt under your nail

Thanks all. My lovely anxiety thoughts were at it again. Feeling much calmer and going to get it fixed by the nail technician ❤️
