Redesigning my engagement ring at 40 or choosing a new one

Hi all,

I am ten years married and turn 40 this year and would like to upgrade myself engagement ring some how. I could just replace it entirely but I just can’t let go of the sentimental value and so want to incorporate it into the new design.

Below is my ring and wedding ring (wedding ring looks like a double band but it isn’t). It’s a real diamond, half carat with two trillion side diamonds.

I’m quite quirky in my style, and fancy something a bit blingier and a bit more me.

Was thinking of getting it redesigned into something like this setting - but with all white gold and my current diamond being the centre instead of the solitaire https://seoidin.com/collections/vintage-rings-new/products/sapphire-and-diamond-ring-6?variant=40674013249735

The alternative option is I just move my engagement ring to my other hand and get a new lab diamond. Saw this one recently.

Can’t decide!!!

If anyone has remodelled their engagement ring I’d love to see your stories and any recommendations for jewellers in the UK.

I’ve worked in the trade - remodelling your ring won’t be worth it financially

Instead, I suggest you buy yourself a blingy lab diamond ring and wear it in your right hand instead

What you have is in scale, tasteful and pretty. I prefer it to your proposal.

Thank you for this insight. It’s very helpful. Would you recommend a lab diamond supplier?

I prefer the ring you have to the one you linked.

I looked at a lab diamond recently, and I didn't care for it. I know they say you can't tell, but it was TOO perfect and TOO flash and it really didn't look like anybody's real stone.
If you wanted some extra bling you could have your lovely stone reset with smaller stones along the band, something like this.

Or for even more bling, you could add trilliants and baguettes on the sides. (Although the first one matches your wedding band.)

Can you get into London? The Hatton Garden jewellers have moved over to dealing equally in both lab & mined diamonds

you might also find a second hand/vintage piece that meets your requirements

I’m 40 next year too! I’m planning on an entirety ring. I’m thinking a five stone so it can be worn with my wedding and engagement rings together. Like you I love my engagement ring and would prefer something to compliment it.
