I've never ever had a pair of DMs. Should I get some now? (mid 40s)

I'm thinking they'd go well with my new skinny jeans.

If not DMs then what?

I used to love DM's and have had multiple pairs over the years.
Always found them uncomfortable at first and they definitely needed "breaking-in" but when done, they were as comfortable as a pair of slippers.😁

How strange that shops are still selling both then

I have some and love them, so comfy and go with everything!! Had them a good few years. I think i did break them in a bit with thick socks but just a couple of hours or so around the house and no problems with discomfort

Both me and DH have 11 pairs of DM’s each. All different colours and styles

Love DM boots. Have 3 pairs but only one pair needed breaking in- the blisters were a sight to behold! Like gloves now. So comfy.
Not so keen on the sandals though

I had one pair of the supposedly soft Pascals. They were awful. And I have the world's most ordinary, standard fit, no problem feet. I gave them away.

I've had my vegan pair for about 5 years, they're still in good condition and I wear them a lot. They didn't need breaking in and are very comfortable. People all ages wear them.

I sold my DM leather boots after a few years as I just could not break them in. The blisters would heel, then I would wear the boots again and the blisters came back. So I hardly wore them and they were unreliable for long walks.

Nah. One of the things about the design is that the little sizes look perfectly in proportion (and cute).

Definitely get some large dressings from the outset to avoid the natural consequences of wearing new leather, though.

I got my first pair (of Solovair’s) at 50, and I wear skinny jeans. Couldn’t care less what the fashion is, I feel comfortable.
I love my Solovair’s, they are so comfortable and didn’t need any breaking in. I do wear thick socks with them though.

I used to wear them in the 80's and i remember the pain !

I've tried all of the more expensive brands that are usually suggested on these threads as an alternative to DMs. Like you OP, I did not wear them back in the day, so I don't have any sense of disappointment in the quality. I think the virginia ones are so comfortable and a great quality product for the price, and they are in great condition, nearly new, years on.

Wear them! I have 2 pairs and loooove them. One shiny one Matt and I also have the sandals!

I'm now a proud owner of some Solovairs. How long do they take to break in? Am aware I probably have bigger-than-usual feet atm due to the heat!

Second the pascal ones for comfort. And if you want them OP, get them! I love mine 😀 (I’m 41).

I’ve had mine over 10 years, they’ve seen many a night out and not a scuff on them!
I wore thick socks to break them in (maybe a week or two) but they’re so comfortable, completely waterproof, I’ve worn them through the snow, puddles etc.

My Mum was also an avid fan well in to her 50s, I lost her last year at 57 and I have her favourites in the box in storage, I couldn’t part with them.
