Mature student graduation outfit

Hi mumsnet,

I need help from some stylish people please.

I am graduating very soon from university. I am a mature student, in my mid 30s. Size 10, very dark hair, green eyes and olive skin. Average height.

I want to look a feel nice, I am very proud as I’ve done this degree while working full time as a single parent. I’m also the first in my family to go to uni.

I have no idea what to wear! I don’t want to look silly. I generally wear black all the time and baggy clothing.

The gown is black with red and grey.

I know you won’t be able to see much of the dress or shoes. But I want what can be seen to look nice and for me to feel confident.

Can anyone suggest any nice outfits or dresses they have seen. Budget up to £200.

Congratulations on your achievement! I hope you have a wonderful time at your graduation. What about something like this from Mint Velvet? You could wear it with sandals or ballet flats.

Do you use Vinted as you would be able to get an inexpensive dress from there or eBay. The links so far seem as though they would be useful.

Thank you! Out of the links so far the Reiss dress is my favourite.

My legs are okay but my knees aren’t my best feature, I also should have mentioned I’ve got quite a big bust and when I wear dresses that are higher on the neck it doesn’t look the most flattering.

I do but I don’t even know where to start, with brands or even colours that might suit.

I always start with colour and size . I only have a few dresses but reckon that if I like the dress that is a good starting point.

https://www.asos.com/prd/208604153?acquisitionsource=pasteboard I don’t wear dresses a lot but I have found previously that a sort of fit and flare style like this flatters my figure

That one from Asos is great. Would you wear that? Mint Velvet, Reiss, Boden are having great sales right now.

I honestly don’t know. That’s the kind of style that I’d usually feel comfortable in for a dress as I think it flatters me, but it doesn’t feel special enough. Would black look terrible with the black robe?
