Desperate for help with wedding outfit - running out of time!

I’ve got a very important family wedding in 2 months and nothing to wear 😩

I’m 5’2, size 18 with big boobs. I don’t like my arms or my ankles and I’m usually a casual dresser so really don’t suit traditional wedding type dresses. I’d be happier in trousers or a jumpsuit but they either look a bit butch/blokey (trouser suits) or are a nightmare to do up (jumpsuits). I hate the Yours Curve/Scarlett and Jo type dresses that seem to be aimed at bigger women and they’re all too long for me anyway.

I’m so stressed about this. I really need to get it right and feel comfortable but I hate everything I’ve tried so far. I’ve ordered and returned hundreds of pounds worth of clothes - tried going in person but even big shops seem to have a very limited range and even less larger sizes. I’ve thought about a personal shopper but suspect that’ll be just the same.

Please can anyone help? I haven’t got much of a budget but could stretch to £150, got neutral bag and shoes that should go with most things. Very grateful for any ideas!

Ive just bought a beautiful dress on Vinted by Nobodys Child. I'm a 18 with big boobs too. You could try looking on their site.

Mumofoneandone · 03/07/2026 14:22

I'm not sure what size she is but I always think Judi Dench looks very elegant when dressed for an event. Obviously her style isn't to everyone's taste but it might be worth looking for inspiration as to how to dress a larger figure and disguise parts of your body you are less keen on!

Yes Monsoon stuff is very long!

I really dont like Roman/Quiz/Kaleidescope - I appreciate the suggestion and they do have nice styles but it all feels really cheap and nasty, I'd like to feel nice as well as hopefully looking good.

The idea of separates is a great shout, I've found a skirt I really like and am considering it with something like a beautiful silk top if I can find such a thing for my generous boobs!

Roman isn’t cheap and nasty.

Overtheatlantic · 03/07/2026 14:35

I’m 58 and I wouldn’t wear what Judi Dench normally wears to events. She dresses very well but for her age.

Overtheatlantic · 03/07/2026 14:39

I don’t know, Roman isn’t the best quality, but not sure if it qualifies for cheap and nasty.

OneNewEagle · 03/07/2026 14:45

Some Roman stuff isn’t the best, I’ve had bits that hasn’t lasted etc.

but other things are fantastic. It just depends on the style. And they do do cotton linen or viscose instead of polyester dresses you just have to hunt through for them,

Neither would I in my 50s. Plus she’s not an18 like myself and the OP.

This is gorgeous on and has a lovely shape due to the shirring on the back.

It's good value and they have some reasonable styles, but it's not somewhere most people would look if they wanted something for a special event!

It has nice occasion dresses. It’s worth a look, rather than dismissing it.

I have bought from Roman several times in the past so I'm not dismissing their clothes without trying! As I say, I think they are good value but not, imo, really high enough quality for a special event.

I appreciate that everyone has their own opinions but that's mine!

Well they’re certainly no worse than some of the suggestion here!

That's setting the bar a bit low, isn't it?

They're no worse than some other things so I think I'll recommend them on here??!

It's easy enough to get a hem taken up. If you can't do it yourself, it would be a very quick easy job for a professional. I am an average height and a size 8-10. I still have had some things altered by a tailor and the difference is amazing. They can see and do things you'd never notice but make something look much better. Of course this is predicated on the thing being too big rather than too small and ideally the shoulders fit properly.

EleanorMc67 · 04/07/2026 04:06

What kind of skirt have you found, @GoWithTheWaves ?

You said that (apart from arms & ankles!) you think you have quite a nice shape - are you fine to show off your boobs (a bit, as it's a wedding), & do you like to emphasise your waist?

I ask as I don't have much of a waist, & I like wearing long column-shaped dresses that are neither tight-fitting or voluminous, but skim my boobs & stomach. I got lucky with finding this NRBY silk column dress in my size on Vinted recently - would you wear a maxi dress in this kind of shape? Admittedly although I'm a 16 with big boobs & stomach, I'm also tall - but as dresses cut like this have no other detail below the bust/armholes area, it is just a matter of shortening rather than extensive adjustments?

I did also have a look at Rixo petite, but the majority is way over budget. Had a skim of Vinted, & found this - which has already been taken up by the 5' 3" size 16/18 owner - & she has posted pictures of her wearing it!

Yes, it's black - which I think is fine for a wedding! But the sheer parts make it look floaty & soft. If you feel uncomfortable about the amount of leg visible through the skirt, I would just get the underskirt extended to just as far as the next ruffle, & leave the bottom ruffle transparent.

If you're summer colouring, you're on the cooler side - so silver or platinum-coloured footwear etc might be better than gold.

Chocolate brown ankle length skirt, straight or fine pleats and floaty but in at waist. Similar coloured round necked top. Cropped jacket in patterned ice blue and off white with 3/4 puff sleeves, or similar shaped jacket in pattern with the brown, off white and light green.

Pointy sling backs in colour that suits (metalic, brown velvet, ice blue etc. ) and hand bag to match.

GoWithTheWaves · 04/07/2026 08:12

I like the Nobody’s Child dress up thread a lot but I’m sure my boobs would just burst out of that shape 🤔 The Rixo dress is also lovely but way out of budget.
