Hi lady’s I’m 39 petite in good shape but not sure if wearing a skort is to young for me to wear on a summers day or not? for example the outfit I’ve tagged.

Why would it be too young?
Do clothes have ages on them like films?

SilenceInside · 02/07/2026 17:36

I genuinely don’t know what would be the issue here. Skort or skirt or whatever, if you like it then wear it. 39 is young compared to many other people!

ToadRage · 02/07/2026 17:37

I'm 39 and the last time I wore a skort was part of a fancy dress costume. I still have it but just can't see myself wearing it as normal. I have nicer shorts and dresses to wear.

Whyarentmysquashesthriving · 02/07/2026 17:49

I'm a similar age to you and personally think the frills and the length are both more something I would have worn in my 20s but am aware most people on here will disagree and say wear whatever you want. Slightly longer (still a mini) and no frills I would wear no problem.

Wuds · 02/07/2026 17:50

Just not your style or not age appropriate?

OP posts:
Loubissou · 02/07/2026 17:51

I am 54 and have a couple of skorts. Admittedly mostly for running rather than fashion, but if you like them, why the hell not?

Weeellokthen · 02/07/2026 17:53

Go for it. You probably won't be able to get away with it in a few years, so now is the time to enjoy your "youthful" clothing.😂
I'm 52 and I feel I wasted my youthfulness clothing choices 😂

I realise I'm going to probably get flamed on here but for me it is the age thing! Very short and frilly to me says 20s. Even this kind of length and style I think would be fine: Blue Floral Stretch Skater Skirt | Roman UK

But perhaps I am a prisoner in a mind jail of my own making.

I'm 37 and have a couple of skorts, I love them - i feel much more confident wearing them than I would the equivalent skirt. Mine aren't white and frilly though, I have a black one and an army green one 😊

Sparrowsandbudgies · 02/07/2026 18:00

I personally don’t like the style of that particular one as I think it’s a bit too beach / teenage ish but I think skorts and shorts in general can look good at any age as long as they fit well and aren’t showing off your bum cheeks.

Wuds · 02/07/2026 18:01

I did think this hence why I was questioning it lol

Abyzou · 02/07/2026 18:02

I'm 38 and have a figure to wear anything. I'd never wear a skirt like that, and even less so when I was 20. And not even when I was 13, I was alternative then. To me, this frilly thing is a toddler/little girl skirt, up to 10 years old max. It's hideous and toddlerish, looks obscene and try-hard on an adult. Minis/micro minis are fine, provided you have the legs for it. Frilly, twirly, little girly - no, thanks.

SilenceInside · 02/07/2026 18:05

The thing is, people will have opinions on the style. I wouldn’t wear it but that’s nothing to do with you @Wudsas I have a very different style to you and a different figure.

If you like it and you are happy you look how you want to look in it then wear it. Why does it matter if some random person thinks it’s “too young” for you?

Wuds · 02/07/2026 18:07

Yes I have great legs lol I strength train few days a week but don’t know what to wear to show off my legs without looking like a try hard tart lol I usually wear midi dresses etc thinking nice pair of denim shorts

OP posts:
Divebar2021 · 02/07/2026 18:10

I think shorts would look more stylish than that skirt. The skirt you posted is something that my 14 year old would wear.

NormasArse · 02/07/2026 18:13

I’m 60 and own 3 skorts 😁.

They are more of the hillwalking variety, but it has genuinely never occurred to me that I might be ‘too old’ for them.

I wouldn’t wear the one in your photo, but I wouldn’t have in my 20s either- it’s just not my cup of tea.

DeeNiall · 02/07/2026 18:14

The model looks like a teenager on the pull. If that's the look you want to portray, go for it.

youalright · 02/07/2026 18:14

I'm the same age as you and I would wear it

Overtheatlantic · 02/07/2026 18:16

“A try hard tart”? Lol you’re not from around here are ye?

Wuds · 02/07/2026 18:22

caught me! My vocabulary’s betrayed me. 😅”

ginasevern · 02/07/2026 18:22

I was definitely wearing mini skirts at your age OP. I was blessed with a good figure and legs and was (still am) petite. But I do think that particular item looks more suitable for a teenager.

Wuds · 02/07/2026 18:30

well, that’s certainly… one interpretation lol

OP posts:
Wuds · 02/07/2026 18:34

So my sister bought the skirt, but it was too big for her, so she said I could have it. My first thought was that it looked like a teenager’s skirt, and judging by the comments, I guess my first thought was right! 😂 Thanks, ladies.

dozer222 · 02/07/2026 19:10

Yeah this style is all the rage with my dd’s age group (tweens). But i did have and wear other skorts at 39. In late forties, not so much…

Goditsmemargaret · 02/07/2026 19:26

Is that you in the pic? I think it's ok but with the white top it's all so young, white and pure I think the 'contrast' would make you look old. I'd probably pair it differently, something more casual and looser on the shoulders, maybe 3/4 length sleeves.
