Just that really - I'm starting an office job and have no clue what to wear with trousers/tops (currently live in jeans and trainers)

I wear a mixture of trainers (gazelle, sambas etc) or the woven Mary Jane ballet flat type shoes. I have a black and natural pair and they go with lots of different outfits.

I wear black leather trainers with a chunky white sole. It’s an office job, but it’s not super corporate. Was contemplating some black samba janes for summer.

Office job. I can be very scruffy so wear comfy sandals like Birkenstocks.

FridayNighFeeling · 02/07/2026 06:18

No sandals/open toes - I have a pair of fisherman's sandals that I'm sure would work as one pair for the warmer days before we get to boot weather, may get some ballet flats too.

TK max have some great leather and suede ballet flats at the moment. I would get yourself a black leather pair and a brown suede pair - they should cover every outfit

mrspk · 02/07/2026 06:21

Normally trainers, in a smarter office I would wear unbranded leather trainers but in my current more casual office any trainers go, most wear Adidas.

OneBagAdventures · 02/07/2026 08:00

My go-to are a pair of Onitsuka Tiger Tokutens. When I need something a bit more dressy I take out my Red Wing Iron Rangers.

Gettingbysomehow · 02/07/2026 12:56

Loafers, boots, court shoes, smart sandals with a heel, leopard flats, leopard mary janes with a small heel.
Office have some good shoes.

FridayNighFeeling · 02/07/2026 15:57

Thanks all, guess I need to go try on some shoes to fit my clown like feet!

Trainers mainly here too - I’m a lecturer in a creative subject. (I have black and white Sambas I wear the most, but loads of others that get an outing.) In warmer weather I have several pairs of Birkenstock Boston clogs, and in colder weather DM Church boots. I don’t really have “proper shoes” any more!

parietal · 02/07/2026 16:47

Trainers from OnRunning. Plain black.

IStillHearTheWaves · 02/07/2026 16:48

Loafers, fisherman sandals, low heeled Mary Janes, sling backs.

Sanch1 · 02/07/2026 16:49

Loafers in the summer, ankle/shoe boots in winter.

Fitflops leather ballet flats have amazing supportive soles inside but they still look delicate and small from the outside. Gamechangers.

I now WFH but when I was in an office, I wore trainers to work to/from work. We couldn't wear open toe/sandals at all. I had various ballet flats, brogues, mary janes and nicer trainers. I was a manager so had some lowish heels/wedges for corporate meetings.

I would wait till you've been there a few days to see what others are wearing and get a feel for how formal or casual everyone is.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 02/07/2026 18:05

Ballet flats in the spring /summer ankle boots in autumn / winter.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/07/2026 18:37

Trainers mainly. Occasionally doc martens or sandals

aliceyyyy2654 · 02/07/2026 20:27

I work in an office with a fairly casual dress-code. In the winter I wear DM boots, Chelsea boots, chunky trainers and DM shoes. In the summer I wear Birkenstocks, DM mules and chunky white trainers.

FridayNighFeeling · 03/07/2026 15:51

Thanks all, I will have to sort a few basics and then get the lie of the land but figure I can't go wrong with some ballet flats. I got a chance to have a good nosy on the interview day and it seems fairly casual.

Nurse - I wear Fitflops fugly as hell but oh so comfy.

Danikm151 · 04/07/2026 07:44

White trainers when wearing a dress and black trainers with trousers.
It used to be ballet flats or boots in the winter but since covid a lot of offices are more casual.
we can only wear jeans on a friday but as long as we’re not dressed for the beach it’s fine.

Work in corporate, trainers allowed, I often wear adidas or converse. Or flat sandals.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 05/07/2026 15:15

I mostly have loafers these days, with ankle boots for winter. I used to wear low heels in my old office but I am in a city full of cobblestones and wobbly paviers so cannot wear those until I go home (in 14 months).

I have a black, and a white/tan pair of loafers; and a black pair of boots. I used to have a lot more choice but currently it’s about practicality.

Mycatmax · 05/07/2026 15:39

Trainers
Ballet flats
Loafers
