Liberty Tana Lawn Robe sizing

My mum's birthday is soon and she loves Liberty designs so thinking of buying her a Tana Lawn Robe as they are on sale at present.

She is 5'7 and size 16 currently though slowly losing weight. I want something that she will get good wear out of as her weight loss journey continues. The robes are described as 'slim fit' so I wondered if any of you lovelies who have knowledge of Liberty Robe sizes could let me know what the fit is like and given her dimensions if a size M or L is most appropriate? Many thanks!

I'd err on the side of caution and size up.
What is Sizing Like at Liberty London?

I think they come in xs, s , m etc ? Your Mum might fit the M or L , but perhaps prefer the L as it’s a robe. The M is like a 12 but would also fit a 14 I feel, it’s not snugly cut. If you get the L that is more reliable in terms of size but will still be wearable as she gets smaller, because it’s a loose robe anyway, so that might be a safer bet ? The size guides usually have garment measurements, if not you can call them and ask, they have helpful staff.,

XS, S, M, L, XL described as slim fit
About 5 cm/2 in between the sizes.

the size guide will be the garment's circumference not the wearer and you need to allow ease.

Their sizes aren't tiny but they're not generous either.

They are small. I have a size L and is fine but being fussy a size too large for me. My husband occasionally grabs it to let dogs out if needed and it fits him but looks a bit ridiculous. He is a standard men’s M and I’m 5’9 size 8-10 (Jeans size 27 as that’s more consistent than other sizing)

Thank you everyone! Your replies have been incredibly helpful! I was really feeling anxious about it as I didn't want to order it and have the disappointment of her having to return it. I have ordered the robe in L for her. So grateful for all your advice 💐

I hope your mother is delighted with it. Thanks for being a lovely OP.
My mother got a Liberty handkerchief for Christmas but it was one if many bits and bobs.

I’m a size 10 and a pretty standard one. I have this robe in a S and it fits well and feels comfortable but it is not in any way loose fitting

Oh no! Thank YOU and @MabelAnderson @BatFinkk @Tortephant
for your excellent advice! I would have been lost without you all! ❤️

I took the plunge and ordered the robe. It arrived today. I opened it and it is absolutely beautiful - the design and fabric quality Is just gorgeous. My mum is going to look beautiful in it. I can't wait to give it to her! The sizing will be spot on for her to wear now and if she continues to lose weight. A million thanks to you lovelies, I know my mum will be thrilled with it and you gave me the confidence to make the purchase. I might need to start saving my pennies for one for me now 🤭😊

P.S. Hope your mum enjoyed her Liberty treats too 🥰

She also likes William Morris prints. Fairly easy to get something with one or the other Smile The hard part is picking a print.

I wasn't much help really - I've got about 3 Liberty shirts. I size up quite often in shirts because I'm quite wide in the shoulder and the fit of them is IMO true to size but slim fit, and the length is just long enough. I'm average height.

The robes look lovely, and if it's anything like the shirts it will be a joy to wear and to iron.

It's a generous gift and I'm sure she'll love it.

Ooh I’m sure she will love it! They’re a real classic

StylishAndBeautiful · 02/07/2026 09:52

Don't. You're making me want one and I can't even afford one for my mother. A tana lawn dress would be perfect for summer though, wouldn't it. Smile
