Funeral in 34 degree heat

What can I wear to a funeral in a heat wave?

Is a black cotton maxi dress ok? Sandals?

In normal weather I’d wear black trousers, silk shirt & blazer.

This is not normal weather!

Not close to the deceased and will likely never see the family again.

@MJagain Yes, or navy or muted pattern. No one will really mind and black isn’t universal these days.

Black shift or maxi dress, if you have a scarf/pashmina just tie it in a neck protecting way. Sleeveless is fine on this weather

I was concerned a cotton dress was too casual. It’s not low cut or anything inappropriate for church, just the cotton aspect I was worrying about. But I think it’s probably fine.

No, it’s fine. Most folk won’t be looking at the fabric of your dress!

My step-mum”s funeral was in the last heatwave and people wore all sorts from strappy sun dresses, jumpsuits to full formal wear. People don’t tend to go really formal anymore, I don’t think, and I ended up wearing a sun dress myself as it was just too hot for anything else. I know my step mum wouldn’t have wanted us to be uncomfortable.

I also went to another funeral that was much more formal, but even then people wore all kinds of styles and colours. Just wear what you feel comfortable in and I’m sure it will be fine, especially in this heat.

I doubt you could go wrong with a lightweight ( ideally cotton ) darker coloured, any colour, doesn't have to be black or even navy but a simple dress, not maxi, too hot!
