Wedding dress ideas for an older bride

Can anyone suggest somewhere to look for a wedding dress for an older bride (60s), church wedding in London. Both the bride and groom are widow/widower.

I am 5’6”, size 10-12. Hourglass shape with short legs.

Im struggling to come up with something that is smart and special enough for a church wedding that doesn’t make me feel absolutely ridiculous/a million years old- definitely don’t want a classic wedding dress of the kind I wore in my 20s!

I really liked what Camilla wore when she married Charles but struggling to think how I can do something similar without just looking like I’m dressed as Camilla 😂

Thank you!

Ah, I remember now! It's gorgeous ...!

I married at age 57, bought a dress from Suzannah London and had it altered to fit perfectly. They were lovey and it was such a nice experience.

My DSis remarried last year ( age 59) she is slightly shorter than you but a size 10 slim build. She wore this Alice Street dress from John Lewis. She actually bought it in a 12 so it was a little looser than the model but it hung better. The dress is stretchy so very comfortable. It was understated but felt right for a church wedding. We are lucky that we have good genes and look younger than we are, I’d love to post a photo of her because she looked early 40s rather than almost 60.

This is actually a better photo and how it looked.

Congratulations!

I’m not seeing the problem. I’m also in my sixties and could probably pick out two dozen white / ivory / cream / gold / silver dresses I’d kill to wear - within about five minutes. (Though I definitely wouldn’t want anything Camilla adjacent as not my style.)

Net-a-Porter is a bit holiday at the moment but you might see a brand or two that has possibilities:

Self Portrait has lots of lovely things if that’s your style:

If it’s later in the year this to me looks rather grander than the royal outfit:

Edited

The Cawley Studio skirt and shirt beats everything else.

Congratulations! A relative of mine - like a poster upthread - wore a dress from Suzannah London. It's not on their website now and I think she might have bought it in one of their sales. She looked great and she's worn it since.

If it were me I'd probably look for something 1950s, e.g. a Horrockses dress (not unlike some of the Suzannah ones) or a suit like the green one Grace Kelly wears in Rear Window, or an original wiggle dress, if I could find one that fitted.

Talking of 1950s, vintage might be another option… I have a lovely peach / grey, 60s shift dress and matching duster shape coat that I wore as a wedding guest. Depending on where you are you come across some really curated vintage shops…

First off congratulations. My sister remarried 3 years ago, also a widow and widower combination. She was 69 she is petite at just 5ft 1, you have more options being taller. She wore a very pale sage slim fitting long dress that fell from under the bust with small cape sleeves. It had a very fine lace overlay. She didn’t wear anything in her hair. I made her a bouquet of white roses, seas thistles and small daisies, I also added rosemary for remembrance.

I think one of the biggest mistakes women make is what is happening with their boobs. Buy really good underwear before you try anything on and also make sure you have shoes of the heel height you want so you get a true look of how your dress will fall. It can really change how a dress looks.
