In search of the perfect medium sized bag

I have plenty of small cross body bags, which are often too small for a day out of the house, and lovely leather totes, which are too big for everyday when I don't need to take a laptop etc..

I usually end up with a cross body plus a canvas tote for the extra bits, but what I'd love is a medium sized bag with enough room for the essentials plus a book and small water bottle but not too bulky or slouchy

Preferably leather or suede. Ideally a shoulder strap. No budget restrictions, all inspiration is welcome!

I have a Mulberry Bayswater satchel and find it’s the perfect size for me. It holds plenty when I’m out with my son (all my tat plus his change of clothes, water bottle, snacks, wipes etc) and when I’m out alone.

I also have a Mulberry Bayswater tote, which is bigger and great for if I’m carrying more stuff or want to chuck in a cardigan etc.

Another option, very structured with an optional shoulder strap. I have the smaller version of this bag (in two colours!) and love it - https://toteme.com/en-gb/products/t-lock-top-handle-black-1

I think the book pulls it from medium to large though? Because book, purse and anything else would be slightly more than medium to me- I could be wrong though!!!

What’s your style OP? There are so many possibilities that fit your description.

Off the top of my head, the DeMellier Midi Stockholm (or the Small) -

If money is no object, The Row Marlo 12 (gorgeous bag but no shoulder strap) -

Those are both lovely. I've owned one like thee brown one and I'd opt for the larger size. A bowler style bag always feels quite stylish as you can carry it in your hand or tuck it under, or as they show it can be worn as a long strap.

A pebbled grain leather bag is also always a hard-wearing but expensive looking option.

I need to come back with a spare 1k, haha.

I’ve got a new obsession with the Loewe Scarf bag which I think meets your criteria! I also really love the Maison Margiela 5AC bag, the Margiela box bag and the JW Anderson loafer bag. Also the Acne studios Musubi midi bag. I am trying to decide between them myself!
