Selling unfashionable clothes - anyone had any luck?

Hi all. I have a lot of clothes to sell from 10-20 years ago. They are all good quality and reasonable high street brands (Boden, Jigsaw etc) but they just aren’t fashionable. Think patterned pencil skirts etc. They also aren’t old enough to be vintage. Has anyone had any luck selling these kind of clothes? I’ve sold a few on eBay but lots more to go. Thanks for any tips.

Everyone has different ideas about what is fashionable or not, we all have different tastes. Just put them on Vinted or Ebay and see what happens.

Isn't noughties stuff really in fashion?
The other stuff, well just give it a go. Everything seems to go for slightly less than a while ago though, maybe just because so many more of us sell things online now.

To be honest, I have personally benefitted a lot from the fact that people will sell high quality Boden from 10-15 years ago for pennies because it is not in fashion!

Not so good if you are a seller. If you can afford the storage space I would consider holding on to some better pieces as the value will return one day, as high street gets even worse quality. And trends will change.

I’ve recently sold some clothes from c2000’s, they went super quick, within hours of them going on eBay. You can get recent fashions all over, there’s a glut of them, but earlier stuff of decent quality are harder to find.

There will always be people looking for shapes and styles they like that they can't get easily at the current time.

I think people may replace items they owned in the past … it doesn’t hurt to list

Echobelly · 17/06/2026 17:42

It's worth giving it a go because sometimes people look in ebay/Vinted etc because they can't find what they want on the high street. I know I have. I think you used to be able to get more variety of styles but now it's like you can only buy exactly what's fashionable and if you don't like or it doesn't suit you, tough luck. So it's worth a go. Or, as posters have said, people might be looking to replace something they had for a long time and now can't find an equivalent of - again, I have done that.

I still wear clothes from 10-15 years ago if they haven’t fallen apart, i personally don’t ditch things on fashion grounds - I’m sure not alone

CortieTat · 17/06/2026 18:00

I’ve sold some y2k things that I didn’t wear anymore and they sold quickly. Some were snatched by my teenagers in a heartbeat before I even managed to say “vinted”, and some I started using again - a few of my handbags have had quite a comeback.

I just put stuff on vinted and leave it there, most things will find a buyer eventually as long as there are no issues with the listing (good photos, informative description, flat measurements)

Thanks for all the tips - very useful. I should have added that I can’t fit into these clothes any more, otherwise I would probably be wearing them!

Yep, that’s why I sold my stuff, I’d need to sew two of them together to fit me, lol

Give it a go, you might be surprised. I listed an old tunic style top recently that hasn’t been in fashion for years. I didn’t expect it to sell, but it went really quickly! I guess that some things maybe harder to find in the shops when they’re out of style, and some people still want them. Bit like v neck tops when crew necks have been in for ages!

Have to say, I haven’t seen a pencil skirt out in the wild for some time, but they must be due a comeback soon!
