Any recommendations for light fresh scent with staying power?

I have been looking for years for a really fresh scent that actually lasts. I love fresh air, clean bathwater scents. A bit of citrus, wood or fruit is fine if the note is fresh not too fruity. I love tobacco and sweetgrass notes. Favourite florals are rose, jasmine and geranium but not too overpowering.

I've been wearing Eau Ressourçante by Clarins for years. I really love that scent but it just doesn't last. I usually use Applejuice by Zara as a body spray in summer, but last year I found the smell had gone before I even left the house.

In the past I adored eau de Givenchy but they seem to have changed its recipe, or my skin has changed as I age. It doesn't smell good any more.

It's so long since anyone said, 'You smell nice!' I miss that.

Happy to consider dupes and real scents. Any suggestions?

There are a few Hermès ones that you might like - specifically from the Jardins collection. I have Un Jardin à Cythère, which is lovely, fresh, and both citrusy and woody, but there are also other ones that you might like - including with jasmine and geranium. You can read more here, and I believe you can also buy a discovery set and/or mini versions if you want to try before committing to a full bottle:

That said... I used to be a huge perfume snob, but I recently came across the Jo Malone dupes in Aldi and couldn't believe how good they were. I have the pomegranate one, which fits your criteria of light and fresh, but there are others, too...

Neveranynamesleft · 17/06/2026 11:02

Another vote for the Aldi ones. The pomegranate one is my favourite, it lasts and I have had lots of compliments on it. For the price they are definitely worth a look.

Try getting the mens lemon cologne used in barber shops (bear with me) its very lightly lemon scented, the cologne acts as a 'fixing' base for any essential oils you like (make sure they are skin friendly) then you can get what you want.

I use rose geranium and bergamot- (they are said to create emotional balance and centredness, which boy does menopausal me need!)

10ml of each in a 200ml bottle topped up with the cologne- you could use de-natured alcohol but I prefer the cologne, available on Amazon.

My combination gives a fresh, citrussy scent, some people have likened it to turkish delight, probably because of the rose geranium-it smells more earthy to me, but in the mix is lightly floral.

Glow Jennifer Lopez

Glow by Jennifer Lopez is a Floral fragrance for women. Glow was launched in 2002. Glow was created by Louise Turner and Catherine Walsh. Top notes are Neroli, Orange Blossom and Grapefruit; middle notes are Jasmine, Rose and Tuberose; base notes are Musk, Sandalwood, Orris Root, Amber and Vanilla.
Glow is the first fragrance by Jennifer Lopez. The fragrance was meant to target women in their late teens and early 20s and it became very popular breaking numerous records in sales which inspired other celebreties to launch their own signature fragrances. Notes are: neroli, pink grapefruit, rose, sandalwood, amber, musk, jasmine, iris and vanilla. J.Lo describes Glow as ‘a skin-scent’. It is described as ‘clean’, even soapy with a sweet, powdery trail.

I came on to rwcommend the hermes one as per Thkuuu.

Shinyandnew1 · 17/06/2026 13:42

I have never seen any JM dupe perfumes in any Aldi I’ve been in-are they only in really big stores?

Shinyandnew1 · 17/06/2026 13:43

I like all of the things you’ve mentioned (jasmine, rose, Applejuice by Zara!) but not geranium-I really struggle with that smell-I find it really odd!

Thanks. I've liked and worn Hermes scents in the past, so will try this one.

Pomegranate doesn't smell good on me. Lots of things don;t. It just goes very pungent.

It can be a bit gassy - like tomato plant leaves. But if it's balanced right, I really love it.

I love that description until we get to 'sweet powdery trail'. I want a clean, fresh trail.

Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche

EvelynBeatrice · 17/06/2026 14:10

Roger & Gallet available at some pharmacies. Or try the Fragonard ones available at M&S.

Ohhh yes, Fragonard is brilliant! I had a discovery set with several of their fragrances - the only reason I didn't purchase a full size was because they were all so good that I couldn't decide!

Definitely a lot of light and fresh scents in their collection.

My wild card suggestion is Charlie White.

I don’t find it very powdery just clean smelling, it’s one of those fragrances I originally would not have considered but my Ds girlfriend was gifted it and didn’t like it so she gave it to me to try.I get lots of compliments as I often wear it as my work perfume.

This perfume looks interesting and might suit https://www.cultbeauty.co.uk/p/hermes-un-jardin-sur-le-nil-eau-de-toilette-50ml/13715562/

I have the Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue - Capri in Love. That is quite light and fresh but has staying power.

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 17/06/2026 14:48

Light Blue but make sure you get the intense version as the other one lasts exactly 5 mins !

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 17/06/2026 14:49

Another thing I do is spray my clothes rather than my skin so it lasts longer.

summerebels · 17/06/2026 14:40

I have never found Dior escale a portofino to have any staying power - like a lot of lemony scents. The men’s version - Dior Homme Cologne is slightly better and absolutely gorgeous but it won’t last long.

Orange based scents last slightly longer. The Panier de sense orange blossom is lovely and lasts a good while. Often available in upmarket French and Spanish holiday resorts as well as online.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 17/06/2026 15:06

@Tonissister Any of the Blu Mediterraneo range by Acqua Di Parma. I find the Bergamotto Di Calabria refreshing. They are all great though. All beauty has discounts.

Neveranynamesleft · 17/06/2026 15:36

The Aldi perfumes, Hotel Collection, are just on the shelf in white boxes, with all the toiletries. I think there's about 6 different ones.

Imonlyhereforthebuffet · 17/06/2026 15:46

CK One. Love it for summer. Reasonably priced too 😊
