What’s everyone wearing on holiday this year?

I’m going on a family holiday to Corfu in July and I’d like to buy myself a little capsule wardrobe of outfits to wear. I have pool wear covered. I’m thinking black/ white, pale blue/ pale pink palette (open to other colours but would love to mix & match with some bits I already have). What’s everyone else wearing this year? I’d like to mix things up from my usual style.

For info I’m 44, 5’7, size 10/12. It’s a family holiday with DH and two kids both under 10. My budget would cover Next/ M&S prices not designer! Bonus points if anyone posts photos/ links!

I'd do:

Tailored black or cream shorts for evening
Long silky bias cut skirt
Linen mix trousers (suitable for day or evening)
Cut off denim shorts

X2 cotton tank tops
X2 button up shirts (one short sleeve, one long)
X2 silky tops for evening

X1 sundress for day, maybe 2
X1 wrap skirt for day

Focus on cotton, or linen mix.
M &S will have a lot of your needs. I also use Vinted.

Silky = polyester 😰

I’m not sure about the colour palette, ideally you want colours that all work together. Black isn’t going to work with pale pink or pale blue.

I simplify - beach/pool wear and then just dresses. Makes life very easy.

That's what I do. I have beach dresses to put on over swimwear for during the day and sundresses for night time or day trips. I take 2 pairs of sandals - flip flops for the pool and flat strappy ones. It's all you need. A few times I've taken shorts and vest tops but I never wore them.

I would hit Tk Maxx for a big try on
I saw pretty white muslin skirts ( brand velvet heart), tops & white cotton lacy blouses/camisoles plus the odd pink Ralph Lauren blouse. Loads of dresses too.
Sainsburies also have some pretty good options this year. I love Zara too for summer. Especially the slit sided linen trousers in white/black & white vest tops.

It's going to be super hot in July - you obviously know yourself better, but I wouldn't be wearing anything black, tailored or long-sleeved in that heat. Floaty cotton dresses and shorts would be most comfortable - although I accept that often doesn't equate to stylish.

I just bought this George Asda Co-ord for my holiday. I'm going to cut the ties off the top and wear it open with a vest top; both items can be worn separately, and it was very inexpensive.

This is lovely.

I do pool dresses and day dresses or playsuits if I want my legs out, and evening dresses so easy, no mix and matching.

Thanks for the advice - but I respectfully disagree! I often pair these colours together and I’m a fan! Each to their own though!

Thanks all for the replies! Off to M&S this week to see what’s about, i’ll
take a look on Vinted too but I usually lack the patience to look on there for too long!

I am going on a similar holiday and also similar size and height! I have a few plain beach dresses but I quite like wearing loose shorts and a vest top or linen top shirt over swim stuff during the day. For evenings I have a few longer dresses. I am not good at capsule wardrobes ...or packing light!

Greenknightsuccess · 15/06/2026 17:37

I just got back from Athens and I felt pretty outdated in my shorts/knee length dresses and white trainers. Long floaty skirts, long wide legged trousers, waistcoat shaped tops, lots of monochrome and very little pattern seems to be this years “in” vibe.

LettuceAndCarrots · 15/06/2026 17:41

I travelled with a capsule wardrobe last summer for three weeks. I took:

  1. Silk maxi dress with capped sleeves
  2. Loose silk midi dress with short sleeves
  3. Blue linen trousers
  4. White long-sleeved linen shirt
  5. Short cotton khaki skirt
  6. Two white cotton t-shirts
  7. Loose light blue cotton long-sleeved shirt
  8. Loose orange cotton long-sleeved shirt.
  9. Navy cotton cardi

Plus underwear, swimming costume, wide-brimmed hat, and a cap.

I was in a hot place and burn easily, hence preferring to have several options to cover my arms. This wardrobe allowed mixing and matching, covered hiking/beach/theme park/travel and smart-ish situations, only needed washing twice whilst I was away, plus everything could be handwashed in a sink if I wasn't near a laundrette. Plus everything dried quickly.

I would be roasting in long flowy skirts! I have a few dresses. Shorts for daytime. Linen good too. We going toronto so loads of walking
