Posh version of a fjallraven kanken backpack

I have a battered old fjallraven kanken which is perfect on term of size, shape and the way it opens but it's so scruffy and I want a leather or posher looking version of it. Anyone got any leads? I love how the kanken opens all the way round like a little suitcase rather than being top opening. It just looks way way too scruffy for me.

I’d just buy a new kanken. There’s lots of styles now, and if all that’s wrong with your current one is the signs of wear and use, a new one will look posh in comparison.

Roka?

Flamingcoming · 14/06/2026 12:35

Some colours of kankens get scruffier than others. My dd has an army green one that was used for school for years and although it isn’t broken or damaged, it looks very battered.

My ds has a grey one which has stood up better to use.

TeenLifeMum · 14/06/2026 12:36

Oliver Bonas is my absolute favourite. I have the green one.

Dr Martens leather backpacks are my go to , i have had mine for 3+ years

Telephonelightflashing · 14/06/2026 12:52

I definitely don't want another kanken as I want something that looks more handbaggy than casual . Will check.out Doc Martens and Oliver Bonas but it's the full zip round that I definitely want

Does that open all the way round?

I’m not sure. You know when you’ve had something so long you just use it how you use it. It definitely opens wide as I never have an issue getting my laptop, papers and chunky headphones in.

TeenLifeMum · 14/06/2026 13:27

Doesn’t open all the way so not meeting the criteria. I wouldn’t rule it out though.

I have an antler backpack that unzips the whole way around. I use it for work as it’s you’re smart but I wouldn’t say it’s handbaggy.

Kankens are so expensive they're surely already the remit of "posh" people. Lots of leather bags look like cheap rubbish tbh. Also don't forget that leather weighs a lot more than fabric, so the base weight of your bag will increase.

I don't mean posh as a value judgment, I just meant it to mean it looks smarter and not as scruffy

Have a look at the Longchamp backpacks -
they might fit your brief.

I have a Doughnut backpack. They come in lots of different colours, well made and have pockets and lining as well as opening all the way around.

If this was in leather or vegan leather it would be perfect!

I don't think they zip all the way round

Just to say that I have a DM leather backpack and love how it looks but it is heavy. I stick with it for the love (and style) but it’s very different to a Kanken (also own a scruffy one with straps coming unsewn so could do with an alternative for that myself).

Madickenxx · 15/06/2026 16:19

This is in no way posh but DD has one of these and she thinks they are good. Possibly too large for what you want: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0823QHZFF/ref=twister_B0C7QX68F8?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

I have this rains one it’s reasonably smart. No leather but it is waterproof and cleanable. And it comes in a few colours
