Vinted - have you ever had someone you know buy an item?!

I’ve been listing a lot of things over the last week, trying to make some space in my wardrobe. Today I’ve had someone very local to me ‘favourite’ an item. Has it ever happened to you that someone you happen to know buys something from you?!

No but i often think how i could save on postage fees if they are close...

SorryTimothy · 14/06/2026 19:22

No. But a friend looked at my listings today and spotted something she’d left at my house years ago that I had put up to sell after giving up on finding its owner. Luckily she messaged me and said ‘you’ve got my coat!’ rather than starting an AIBU thread about how awful I am.

Not someone I know, but someone very local to me bought something. It had to go miles away to the sorting office and back down again, so I considered delivering it myself but felt that would be unprofessional

lemonbasket · 17/06/2026 11:40

I’ve never sold on vinted so had no idea sellers could see who has favourited items! My privacy settings are set so that sellers don’t get notifications when I favourite items (as I found the messages they sent intrusive) and can’t message me - but can they still see on a list that I have?

Not someone i knew but someone who lived in the same town as me. I met her in Morrisons carpark to do the exchange

Ha ha! Good point. About the MN aibu thread. Like most sensible people do she messaged you.

Myskyscolour · 17/06/2026 11:55

Yes! I recognised her from the username and we did the transaction in person

SJM1988 · 17/06/2026 12:00

No someone I know but a few people that live locally and want to collect rather than pay postage. I do that

stopringingme · 17/06/2026 14:35

I bought something from a vinted seller who lived locally - I went and collected, paid cash and was happy to save the postage and buyers protection fee.

I ended up buying something else from them whilst there.

Costacoffeeplease · 17/06/2026 14:38

yes, the parcel travelled about half a mile

Swissmeringue · 17/06/2026 15:12

I've bought from someone I know. We figured it out before she posted it and she just brought it to baby group instead. 😂

DressOrSkirt · 17/06/2026 16:25

No, but close!
On Depop I had someone who lived in the same small town as me buy something. When I got their address I messaged to suggest we could meet at the post office so I could just give her the item and refund her the postage, plus she wouldn't have to wait. She was very happy!

NegativeSpace · 17/06/2026 16:31

I’m very new to Vinted. I had no idea people could see where you are!

I love that the locker labels don’t give your full address though. Mind you, I’ve only just realised you are supposed to double wrap items to post, or the buyers can claim a refund as damaged due to insufficient packaging, and they automatically get it.

SorryTimothy · 17/06/2026 16:42

I’ve also just remembered that I did once buy something from someone I knew before I moved. She spotted my name and sent me a cheery message.

Happened with me on Ebay. Not someone I knew personally, but someone in my town who asked if they could drop it off. I said yes. They never returned the postage fees, which I thought was a but cheeky, but I suppose I'd agreed to pay that so it wasn't like I lost out on anything!

BridgetRandomfuck · 17/06/2026 16:46

Not on Vinted, but I did on Ebay - It was someone I worked with! I only realised after I printed out the postage label, so just sent it as usual, but could have brought it to the office. It would have felt a bit weird taking money off her for a t-shirt though!

TokyoSushi · 17/06/2026 16:49

Somebody in the next street bought something from me, I still did the whole rigmarole of going to the parcel shop as I wanted to remain anonymous! Grin

omghereistrouble · 17/06/2026 17:03

sold within 10 miles, but no one I knew. would not mind doing it in person
btw i always favour items as often sellers often send offers which can save quite a bit of money

AlphabetCucumber · 17/06/2026 17:57

A girl I went to school with bought something from me. I vaguely recognised her distinctive name and then saw the town on her address so knew it was her.

Yes, I’ve done this too!

houseofisms · 17/06/2026 18:09

Yes, the woman that bought my house!! 😂

cheesychipsontheoche · 17/06/2026 19:58

Picked up something from a lady on the next street. Saved on postage at least
