What to wear to run in?

Just caught sight of myself in the mirror! I need help.

Have just taken up running again and cracked out all my old exercise gear which still fits me. But now I’ve got kids I have to fit the running around their clubs so I’m wearing my exercise gear in public and I look bloody awful!

please tell me what I can buy that looks decent when not actually exercising

What sort of budget?
A decent running bra.
I currently run in sweaty Betty shorts and t shirt. They are not cheap but there are often sales.
I run in their full length power or super soft leggings in winter. They don't go baggy.
There are some reasonable options elsewhere. Sainsbury's, Mark's, Amazon.

I did try googling but can't find you a running tunic, sorry 😞 🤣

Try Urban Trail or Bimble and Bolt for nice, not wildly expensive running kit. Stick a sweat shirt or hoodie over the top when not running and it should look fine.

Thank you. Sweaty Betty looks like a good shout!

Definitely look at sweaty Betty shorts but you may prefer Lululemon or Gym shark or LNDR.

Let me know if you find a decent sports bra because I am still looking.

UserNineNine · 14/06/2026 21:51

I’ve got some sweaty Betty leggings and also some H&M ones which are actually better. Thicker, smoother and with two pockets.

I think trying to coordinate your stuff colour wise helps. I started with my trainers as I already had those and got a top that had the same colours in.

I have some Nike bras I got over 10 years ago that are good.. but I don’t have much boob to contain!

I’ve also got Nike bras and I’ve got huge boobs. My MIL bought them after reading the army use them. Grin

H&M Move range is really good and like someone else said I’d argue actually better than Sweaty Betty. I often wear running stuff to the school run so I can exercise after and I just wear the leggings, sports bra, sports top & a jumper!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/06/2026 07:55

M&S Good Move range is very good quality at a mid range price. It’s a bit similar to Sweaty Betty but cheaper!

GimmieABreakOr3 · 15/06/2026 08:16

Sweaty Betty, Lululemon or adidas

Wowsersbrowsers · 15/06/2026 10:09

H+m is great but hasn't lasted as well for elastic sadly so not for shorts and leggings

Londonmummy66 · 15/06/2026 10:34

Sweaty Betty long line sweatshirt and one of the running jackets are both on sale at the moment. If you are dropping the DC and then running from the car I'd go for the sweatshirt, if you need to run in the top I'd go for the jacket as it is thinner and therefore easier to tie around your waist if its too hot to run in.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 15/06/2026 11:05

i know SB & Lulu are more expensive, but they’re worth the price tag in my opinion! They last for years and do not lose their elasticity or fade. I’ve had some SB items for like 10 years!

This gives me flashbacks to school PE and too-big aertex shirts designed to be grown into! 😅

Mine have definitely lasted as I know I bought them before Covid and wear them just as often as the sweaty Betty ones.

Maybe they've improved! I bought some years ago at the same time as some Lulu leggings and they're still amazing while the h+m bottoms lasted about 5 minutes before I was constantly hoiking. Weirdly I still have their tops from then but the leggings (plural) were seriously saggy within weeks.

A bib or navy pleated nylon gym slip with the weird fastening at the side! Urgh, happy days, not.
