Would anyone be able to help find a perfect dress please (MoB)

I tried this dress and matching jacket today - it was beautiful (in fact, another lady saw me try and decided to try it herself 😆) but we both had the same problem - we needed petite but it wasn’t an option. The wedding isn’t until next spring but I like the vibe of this - simple and unfussy, elegant.
Has anyone seen or can find something in the same vein please? I’m 5ft1, needed a 10 in this but these days mostly a size 8 but a very sturdy 8! I am small busted but very much apple shaped with definite belly. Budget is healthy but feels a bit mad to spend crazy money on something I’ll never wear again. Am open to buying pre loved but sizing can be so difficult for me

It’s beautiful! Love the jacket. Very elegant. Could you get it altered?

No I don’t think so - the assistants were looking and saying they didn’t think so 🤷‍♀️

Yes I’ve saved some Shibumi ideas - I’m not sure if they are a bit more old fashioned? (I’m mid 50s)

I know what you mean although I do love the look of cigarette trousers with a long matching coat. I think it’s elegant and slightly exotic. I’m 58 though 😁

dottyaboutstripes · 12/06/2026 20:43

Oh I agree that can look stunning! Not on stumpy old me though 😆

Wolf and Badger are worth browsing.

I would buy it and take it to a tailor, see if they think they can do it. I go to a high street tailor for everything these days , as also on the short side and always need everything altered. They’ve been able to fix everything I’ve taken in, I’d guess they could do this too.

Honestly I’d rather try to find something that fits properly or at least much better. I did feel like a child dressing up in her mum’s clothes!

I really wouldn’t get a dress and jacket tailored to that extent, with a structured style like that you’d be basically remaking both garments

id normally recommend Ralph Lauren Petit, but the dresses are all a bit dull this season, may be worth keeping an eye as new stocks emerge https://www.ralphlauren.co.uk/en/women/lauren-petite/201053?prefn1=CategoryCode&prefv1=Dresses%7CBlazers%7CJackets%20%26%20Coats

You can’t possibly be stumpy at size 8. You’re gamine if anything.

How about separates from The Fold? The Salerno top with a matching skirt or trousers would look lovely https://thefoldlondon.com/product/clever-crepe-salerno-top-ivory/

This was what I’d set my heart on but sold out in my size. I’ve been stalking the website and vinted/ebay but no joy! There’s another dress I’m interested in if that comes back in stock too.

That dress from the Fold is beautiful, as was your first choice. As you have until next Spring, you have time to wait for at least one more drop of seasonal stuff, so make sure you are on mailing lists for brands you like.
