a hard one - black long sleeve blouse suitable for hot weather?

OK this one is a bit of a challenge. Your style ideas solicited.
I would like to buy a long sleeve black blouse for a formal, work-type event ... but for wearing during hot weather, like recent UK heatwaves when its baking. The blouse has to have long sleeves - this is non-negotiable.
I've got this one below from Cos, which I think the shape of suits me well, but it's quite heavy fabric and I think I would be too hot in a heatwave.

Has anyone seen anything that might work? I'm a 14-16 on top - so something flattering to bigger boobs and not skintight would be great. Price point - would try anything, and up to about £150ish for the right thing. TIA

I have a black long sleeve broderie anglaise shirt from M & S which is incredibly cool to wear on a hot day. However, I bought this a couple of years ago. There is one on the Finery site which isn't quite as holey, but it does allow for ventilation.

What about the black version of this? Cotton.

I've got s few, JL is a good source as you can filter by sleeve length. They have a brand called Kaffe which do a nice line in long sleeve tops in lightweight fabric. I got an And/Or blouse from JL with lovely balloon sleeves and some cut outs which alas was too boxy for me

Believe it or not I find linen rich or linen blends quite hot

You need something like the Cos blouse but in viscose. I find viscose the coolest fabric

Chlo shirt from Sezane, £110. I think only concern may be if it gapes as Sezane can lean towards more petite sizing overall.

With your budget I would go for silk, e.g.

I got a black silk shirt from M&S recently.

Thanks for the thanks, but I can’t take credit for this. It was @likelysuspect

@EgregiouslyOverdressed The silk ones are lovely but do you think I will feel cool enough in very hot weather in silk? It's being too hot I'm trying to avoid really

I find fine silk cooler than cotton in hot weather, personally, with the added benefit that it doesn't crease like linen. Probably the only fabric I find cooler is bamboo but you are unlikely to find anything formal enough for your purposes in bamboo.

And viscose can be brilliant. My recent baukjen leopard print on viscose doesn't crease and dries in minutes

HelenHywater · 12/06/2026 12:34

There are loads of long sleeved black linen shirts around - could you wear one of those? Cos, Arket, With Nothing Underneath, all of them have these.

I do have a lovely silk shirt from Equipment but I don't really wear it in the summer - I worry about sweat being very obvious (and also the constant dry cleaning).

Silk is machine washable!

whoopsnomore · 12/06/2026 12:56

Not super helpful, but I saw someone recently raving about cheesecloth shirts as a light but covering fabric - personally I find silk too prone to sweat patches!

Not in black, though.

I realise I sound like I am lobbying for Big Silk Grin
