Effortless style - an outfit for an outdoor cocktail event.

I’m size 16, 5’4’ apple shaped, autumn colouring. Despite knowing all of this I still struggle with looking ‘put together’.

I have an event coming up - it’s outdoors and a cocktail evening with live band. I really want to wear some wide legged trousers with a silk shirt. I’m thinking navy trousers/copper silk shirt or mole trousers/champagne shirt. Does anyone have any tried and tested suggestions?

I know the key is the accessories so will do a simple gold necklace, gold earrings but no idea about shoes or bag so any suggestions there would be fab as well!

As an aside I want to look effortlessly put together as people from a former version of me will be there (ex ‘d’h for starters).

Help!

You’ll look more contemporary if you go for a tonal look - silk shirt and trousers, say, in the same or adjacent colours.

Ah yes, tonal rather than two separate colours. I can see how that would look more contemporary. Thank you for the link.

As lovely as they are, they’re probs too much for me. I’m usually a scruff, bordering on smart/casual so I can’t go too far the other way as would be out of my comfort zone. Thank you though!

Poetry have lots of silk shirts and trousers. Expensive but lovely colours.

Poetry is an excellent suggestion. Beautiful and high quality.

Or depressingly drab. Depending on one’s point of view. 😄

Something like this co-ord set, @EllieRoobo? It’s a nice update on a plain silk shirt. Nb, I’m shorter than you and have no trouble with Cos trousers. And each half can be put with more casual pieces day to day. Very cool, to my eye.
