Is it acceptable to get newly done nails redone elsewhere?

DP offered for me to get my nails done and long story short, I hate them.

The technician said sure when he showed her the inspo photo and when I went in it became apparent that no, she did not have the colours and I ended up with something completely different that I frankly dislike. I was the last appointment of the day and let’s just said that being incredibly shy and anxious didn’t do me any favours.

I rarely get my nails done so I don’t know the etiquette around it, would I be fine walking into a different salon and asking for them to be redone? I also feel bad for my DP because I feel like I wasted his money but these look so bad 😭 not in terms of technique, just the colour combinations. I want them gone!

Are you looking for a refund or just to go elsewhere? If it's the go elsewhere then entirely your choice. Your nails are your own

If you want refund -well no. You should have said " I don't like those colours" before they started to paint. Or asked them to re do at the time
If they are a good paint job can you go back and explain to them. They should re do probably charge you though .
Are they gels ? They need to be removed properly, let the salon do this.
It is a shame when this was a lovely treat that you weren't happy with

@70isaLimitNotaTarget no, I don’t want a refund because I know I should have just said something then and there, I just want to go elsewhere really.

I had a few friends and coworkers mention they hadn’t gone back and now I definitely see why, it was so stressful. I was a single parent myself so I definitely appreciate the struggle, but I could barely hear myself think with their 2 children constantly interrupting and trying to grab everything. I don’t think she could concentrate either tbh.

DP just went there because they’re close to ours so I see the intention, bless him.

If you’re going somewhere else they won’t give a damn, they just want your money.

OneThreadOnlybyN · 07/06/2026 10:41

Why was your DP going there & showing them pictures? Why is he so involved with how he wants your nails?

sounds weird & controlling to me.

of course you can go in eksewhere to have your nails done, you're worrying me.

Gettingbysomehow · 07/06/2026 11:20

Your main problem is that you need to learn to speak up for yourself really. Why do you need permission to go elsewhere? Just go. Say you arent keen on the colour and can they change it please. Job done.

Ethelspagetti · 07/06/2026 11:25

I’d just put up with them as they’ll need redoing soon anyway! Then go elsewhere. If you really hate them then just go elsewhere and ask if they can repaint them.

Another tech can soak off and do a new set. They shouldn't be doing infills on nails from another salon, there's no way to guarantee the quality.

Prison sentence, at the very least.

Wanting to choose a manicure for your own nails?

What kind of monster are you?? 😮

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 07/06/2026 11:29

Were they gel nails? If so be prepared to have wrecked nails when they're taken off. You may need to get them redone so they look ok. That's how they get you into a regular nail cycle! If just normal polish where they didn't have to file the nail surface to apply then it's easy to get them redone as many times or as infrequently as you like.

Holidayshopping · 07/06/2026 11:29

Your husband went into a nail shop and showed them what he wanted your nails to look like? Or he showed them what you told him you wanted?

Then you went in and they did completely different colours and you didn’t say anything but let them carry on? Is that right?

Now, you want to go to have a different nail shop and have them removed/redone and are worried that isn’t acceptable?

No nail shop is going to care what is acceptable or not as long as you pay them.

I would think about working on your assertiveness skills though!

@Holidayshopping @OneThreadOnlybyN English isn’t my first language so I asked him to go, nothing weird and controlling going on at all! I have a hard time understanding accents so I get even more nervous (I’m well aware I too have an accent this isn’t a jab).
