Why do I find it so hard to find things to fit?

I ordered 6 items online from M&S. Only 1 fit me well. I am a true size 8 yet the trousers were really tight around waist. They had an elastic, which I thought would be a bonus, but it was sooo uncomfortable. Also some jeans I had bought before and which I love but these were different and not as good - tighter and narrower.

I did a collect in store so was able to return immediately but felt embarrassed doing so…

Retailers use different factories with different patterns for sizes. Sometimes a pair of black M&S Sienna jeans is a different size to a blue pair of Sienna.

What baffles me is that a medium in mens' in any shop fits DH. Trousers, tops, pyjamas, boxers. It is most annoying.

I’m also an eight op, and I ordered some trousers from markies and they were too tight on the waist and massive round the hips and arse, looked awful,

I am glad you say that, as I started to think maybe I had a weird body shape! I have had that a few times now - not just from M&S but also from whistles. The size 8 waist band is just a tiny bit too tight but too much fabric around the hips, so the next size up looks even worse - like clown trousers.

That must be it, because when I commented about the fit being different, the woman serving me muttered something about them all being made in different factories. It made me think that maybe lots of people have commented on this.

M&S have recently changed their sizing and everything is smaller. So annoying !

I’m a different clothes size to you but nothing from m and s is fitting me properly either.

Dollyparot200 · 10/06/2026 17:19

I got some shorts waist too small as well, its annoying because I always measure myself and look at their size guide and they should fit, I really wish they would change the size guide so it reflects the true size of the clothes they are selling.

Imagine being a size 24 short-arse like me. At least you can take clothes in at the seams etc. There's not a lot you can do to make the garments bigger without a lot of alterations and the additional cost.
